To raise credit score should i pay off credit card immediately or stretch out payments over a few months? I don't have debt by any means, first and foremost. I am just starting to live on my own and build my credit and stuff. I got a credit card to help me do that and right now my balance is around $600. I can easily pay this off in one month and not think about it again but i heard that won't raise your credit score any. Someone told me that it is good to leave some balance on your credit card. So, I was wondering should I stretch out the payments over a few months? I would like educational answers only please. I want to do whatever is best for my credit score.

Advanced Strategies to Raise Credit Score? I'm working real hard to raise my credit score. It hasn't been good for a long time. As a result, I am paying very high rates for a car loan. Here is what I've done and am doing, however I am looking for more strategies if there are any. It may just be sit and wait: 1. Am paying off all negative entires. (They're not that bad, less than 1,500 in total). 2. Have paid car note for one year so far, ZERO late. 3. Have opened credit account at Electronics Store (600.00) limit, paid about 3/4 of a year, ZERO late. 4. Opened TWO secured credit cards. 700 Limit and 300 limit. ZERO late, however balance is a bit higher than 30% of limit. 5. Opened UNSECURED credit card. Two month history ZERO late. 6. Have not added additional debt. What else can I do to raise my score? Any thoughts? Thank You.
Will Car Payments Raise Credit Score??? I just purchased a car about 3 months ago (this month will be the 3rd payment), and got financing for it even though I have hardly any credit history/BAD credit history(only 2 bad accounts that total $900, but never had any other kind of credit or anything to make payments on). My first couple payments have been on time, and there should be no problem in paying every payment on time. The total financing for the car was $17,755 for 62 months. I am on my 3rd payment this month. I understand that this is a pretty big investment and will help build my credit, but I just wanted to know how long will it take to begin raising my credit score, and how much I should expect it to raise, if every payment continues to be on time? ****I checked with my loan company AND THEY DO report to all 3 credit bureaus....****

Should I increase my credit card limit to raise my credit score? I currently Have a Platinum Mastercard with no balance on it, and I want to keep it that way using it for only small purchases. My credit line is for $10,000 as of now, should I increase my credit line to $20,000 and keep no or a minimal balance on it to help my credit score. Will that be beneficial to raising scores and receiving good interest percentages on home loans and car loans in the future? I really just want to have the best score possible to save the most money later in life.
How can I raise my credit score by 50 points? I recently got my student refund money from school for this semester on September 5 and I paid off all of the debt that me and my husband owe on September 6(about $6,000 worth). We are trying to buy a house, but in order to achieve that goal our credit score has to be 50 points higher than what it is already to even get approved for a loan. We pay our bills on time and now we don't have any debt. When will we see our credit score raise drastically, or what are some tips to speed up the process?
How can you raise you credit score even when you pay on time? Ok, past credit messed me up. I have a judgement thats almost paid off. I am trying to raise my credit score.I have 3 new accounts that I've paid on time for over 1 year. I read that one way to raise your score is to " piggy back" on a relatives good credit ( have them add me to one of their good accounts and not use it) Is this safe, is it legal. I would love to hear constructive ways to increase my credit score. Please don't judge me. Almost all of my " bad" credit accounts have been paid off. I put my sons first when the divorce came. They lived in the house that I paid for while I lived in a basement.
Credit score: Your Fico and Beacon are so important so which one of these will raise my score? I currently have eight credit cards but only use four of them. Right now only three have balances. I watch my credit score and in the past three months it has dropped from 735, 724, 718. The only thing I did different was about four months ago I got three new cards and this month I have a much higher balance than I normally do. Now I will pay down the balance and dont plan to get any more credit cards. Here's the question: Which will raise my credit score...to leave all eight accounts open and only use four of the cards or to close four accounts and leave four open?

How do I raise my credit score quickly? I need to build my score back up and I know that some stuff on your report, payin bills on time, having income to dept ratio, and maxed revolving loans effects that, but I was just wondering what other things that I could do to raise my score. I was laid off work in 2004 and was struck by Katrina in 2005 and between those problems mine and my husbands score has fallen from an 800 to below 600. We have been paying all our stuff on time and do not have maxed revolving credit, I have a full time job again and still our score will not come up what should I do?
How fast will getting an auto loan raise my credit score? My credit score generaly hoovers between 620 and 630ish. I have 2 credit cards. 1 is years old and the 2nd is since July. I previously had bad credit but paid off all balances over 1 year ago and all were medical. Years ago I had a few charged off credit cards and those were paid shortly after closing them. I am getting married in May of '08 and hy future husband's score hoovers between 680 and 700ish and we are looking to refinance our home in our names after getting married. It is currently in his and his fathers name as we both had sad credit to begin with. His was a bancruptcy in '02. What are some quick ways to raise my credit score? I'm 19 y/o and I have three major credit cards. I have a credit score of 708 and I'm trying to get it higher. I recently applied for a loan but I need a co-signer. However everyone I kow has bad credit. How can I raise my score within the next couple months so I can get a loan without a co-signer? Will I eventually be able to raise my credit score? Hello there, Will I ever be able to increase my credit score, even if I had a charge-off on my credit. I have 14 positive marks on my score, however, it seems like it's not enough to give me a great FICO number. Is there anything I can do to raise my score more. How long does it take before it starts inching up. Thank you!!
Best way to raise credit score is a CC? I checked my credit score because I need a small loan to help pay on the 2 loans I have now (auto and school), because I wasn't working for 2 months. There's a good reason for that, though. On my score page it said I had a bad balance of credit cards and loans out, and I should get a credit card to help even things out, bringing my credit score higher to qualify for a better loan that won't kill me. I know my credit score is a little low because it's new-ish (about a year and a half), but I've got to figure something out quick, or else the car note that I'm late on is going to hurt my credit score even more next tuesday. All that to say, does anyone have a suggestion for a CC for me to get that will help more than harm me?
A good and efficient way to raise your credit score? I am looking to raise my score, which is now, consequently, not as high as I'd like it to be (its in the low 6's) I have already checked out a site called prosper.com to try and find a personal loan financer, but I figured out the game pretty quick: if you have below a certain credit rating it does not matter how much interest you are willing to pay, no one will touch you. So, I was wondering if there was anything else (besides paying my bills on time, which I have begun to do religiously) that would help to raise my score?
Best way to raise credit score in 6 months??? Ok, my husband and I was d/c out of bankruptcy in Jan 07, we have only 1 credit card each that we just got and paid our first payment(we paid more than the minimum). We just got our credit scores from Experian and both scores are about 550. We don't want to get too much credit and over extend ourselves. We have a free&clear car, an apt, and I have a couple of student loans in deferment. So, we want a house in Fall of 2008, how do we get our score up in six months??? I'd like to see our score up to 650? Is that too much in a 6 mos period???
Need some tips to raise credit score.? A series of events led me to file for bankruptcy 2 years ago. Since then, I've been trying like crazy to re-build my credit. I currently have 4 credit cards that were recently opened (within the last 6 months) and have been paying on them on time every month. I have not missed a single payment and even make double payments. My credit score has gone from 460 -610 in the last year. My question is, is there anyway I can get my score to go up faster? I only have one account in collections, a medical bill that was not discharged in my bankruptcy. Also, one of my credit reports stated that I had too many inquiries on my report and that caused my score to go down. How do I fix that?
Which will raise my credit score better? ok I have been told that paying off debts in full actually hurts my credit score and then the more payments I make actually hurt my score b/c of the the changes in the activity dates and then I was told paying them in payments raises my score I have been told applying for a credit card and paying off the balance every month will help my credit score I am told that more I have (c.c's) is better to but not to apply for to many b/c they lower my fico points I am told there is nothing that will remove my bad points at all I currently have around 17,000 dollars debt 90% is doctor bills I am working on a goal to get in the 700 range within the two years by paying these debts and what ever will help as well also if I use a c.c to pay payments on old debts and keep my balance paid every month will this double my points I am so tired of mixed answers I just want to know what will work the best I am not in a big hurry being I am wanting to make this a 2 year plan not a fly by night thing thanks
how to raise my credit score up fast? when i start paying off my old bills how fast will my credit score be raise i do have a credit card and make the minium paymnets on that card does that help my score
Is lowering my credit cards below 50% the only thing I need to do to raise my credit score? I have credit scores of 590(experian), 597(equifax), and 612(transunion). I have 13 accounts in good standing (5 of these are paid off accounts still listed) and 2 negative items on my reports. 1 of the negative is bankruptcy which was all medical bills and the other is I trouble with about 2-3 payments on one account over 30 days late. I kept in touch with the company because of an unexpected financial situation about 5 months ago. I am back on track of paying everything on time and wondered what else I need to do to raise my scores. Thank you! My 5 accounts are closed, they are just listed as $0 balance, how much the account was, installment type, and the terms of each agreement. When account opened and closed.
How much: Raise my credit score by becoming joint account holder on seasoned accounts? I currently have about a 620 credit score. Within the last year of two I have added new accounts and have made timely payments with a slip of maybe one or two times of late payments. My credit score has improved since then. What majorily has brought my credit score down are two collection accounts that refuse to come off, one is paid and the other I have no intention of paying ( i do not feel like I owe). What steps can I take to bring up my credit score significantly? I was thinking of adding myself to a relatives account as a joint account holder. It is a seasoned account. How much will it raise my credit score to add myself to seasoned accounts as a joint account holder?
will a paid balance raise my credit score easier than zero balance? i have a low credit score due to past deliquencies. i still have over 7 credit accounts according to FICO. i want to know what is the best way to raise my credit. i know that the credit is based on account history and the ratio that i'm borrowing against credit limit, so does that mean it's better to keep these accounts? i've also heard that having too many credit cards is bad, but is it bad because i might be tempted to use them or is it bad for credit score as well. i'm most concerned about credit score.. i no longer have financial issues. also, is it better to use the cards a little bit then pay it off every month so at least i'm "making payments on time", or is it better to keep the balances at zero? if it is better to pay something off every month, does it matter how much i'm paying off? so if i use the card a lot then pay off everything every month, is that good for my credit score? thanks, thanks for the answers. question, is it better to close the accounts i have open? or is it better to keep all of them to raise my average history length and the general debt vs. limit ratio lower?
How can I raise my credit score after bankruptcy? I had a bankruptcy discharged, can I rem the accts included? I filed for bankruptcy (chapter 7) a year ago and successfully had it discharged. I'm in teh process of rebuilding my credit and I pulled my credit report and all the creditors included in the bankruptcy have my accounts listed as "bankruptcy" which is destroying my credit score. Is there any way I can have those accounts removed since they are all closed and were included with the bankruptcy? Does anyone have any tips on rebuilding my credit? My score is currently 530 and I would like to raise it to the average but it seems like it hasn't been going anywhere. What can I do?
How do I raise my credit score without a credit card? I have student loans but I am still in school and I've got several more years to go. I don't want to get a credit card because I'm not sure I can trust myself with it. I have a car but it is in my dad's name because I don't think I have the credit to get one without a co-signer and no one is availible to cosign. Since I still live at home, how can I raise my credit score without a credit card? I want to raise my credit to buy a house. I can't get on anyone's credit because they already said no.
How to raise my credit score? I have a score under 600. I currently have no debt. I have no credit cards. I rent. I have 5 grand in the bank. What can I do to raise my credit score?
Using a CD loan to raise my credit score? I've been working on raising my credit score. I've gotten rid of all the past due accounts. I only 1 line of credit open, it's a secure credit card. I was thinking of taking out a loan from chase where my CD savings account. Granted they report the the repayments to the credit bureaus. Do you think that it will raise my credit score
Will I be able to raise my credit score by doing the following? I just had a question. About 3 months ago I tried to apply for a loan to get a house. However, my credit score was around 560 at the time, so they were asking for a 10,000 down payment and to hire a company to settle my debts. Since then,I decided to try and raise my credit score alone rather than pay someone to do it for me. I have been paying my bills on time and paying more then the minimum balances. I am also paying off credit cards starting with the lowest amount. At the rate I am going, I should be able to pay off everything by the end of December. Now my question to you is, by doing all of these things, would my credit score go up enough to, hopefully by March, be able to apply for another home loan?
What is the fastest way to raise your credit score? My husband and I hit a financial hard spot about a year ago. Since then we have worked hard to catch up on all our bills and pay them on time. We would like to buy a house in about 3 years. (We own a condo at the moment) Would 3 years be long enough to raise our credit scores? Other than paying our bills and paying off some of the balances that we owe is there another way to raise our credit scores? We plan on keeping our credit cards once we get them paid off because we were told that as long as we charge something once a month and then pay that off every month it will help with our credit score. Any other advice?
How to raise your credit score? Other than maintaining your credit cards.. and paying everything on time..is there any OTHER way to raise a poor credit score?
How to raise your credit score? How long does it take to raise your credit score and what should I do to raise it. My Transunion is 484. My Experian is 523. My Equifax is 423...HELP!!!! How do i raise my credit score? Its been 730 for 6 months? Hey thanks for checking out my post, here is my question and background. I am 19 years old, and i've had a personal visa with a $9,400 limit for about 6 months. Generally, each month i spend about $800 and when the bill comes i pay it imediatlly in full. My credit score of 730 has been the same for about 6 months. I recently got approved for a small business credit card for $12,750, i am wondering, since i have to charge $4,000 in office expenses next month, should i pay it off in full? Or pay $2,000 the first month, $1000 the next, and so on and so forth to raise my credit even more?

Will getting a CD or IRA raise my credit score? I'm trying to find a way to improve my credit score to rent an apartment. To rent an apartment in San Diego you need to make three times the rent, or 6 months rent in savings, plus have good credit. So I was thinking about getting a IRA for $8,000. So that I can prove I have 6 months rent and I am hoping it will raise my credit score.
Quickest way to raise your credit score!? My husband and I worked for the same company about 3 years ago and it unexpectedly closed - and we were both without a job. Due to this, we drained our savings while we tried to find new jobs. I still have not. We have several charge offs on our credit. We have three open accounts now in good standing (have never been late)! Should I pay off all the charge offs? And if I pay the balance will they remove it from our credit report? What is the best way to raise the overall score quickly other than just paying your bills on time. We don't have credit cards any longer - they along with other bills are now charged off on our credit. I need to know since they are around 2-3 years old if I should pay them off and if I pay them off will they remove it from our credit?

Will paying off collection accounts raise my credit score when they are reported as paid? Right now my score is 595. I have an auto loan that is almost 3 years old and never late, a student loan that is 3 years old and never late, and a credit card that i have in good standing, never late. But i have 4 collection accounts on my credit report. I paid 3 of them off a couple of days ago, and i'm working on getting the last one paid off very soon. When these collection accounts are marked as paid, rather than delinquent, will this raise my credit score substantially???
Will buying an ATV lower or raise my credit score? I have bad credit, my scores are 587,526,567. I have 9 negatives and 4 positives. 5 of the negatives will be removed By March 08'. how EXACTLY do you raise a credit score? Pay off in full, or payments? I was wondering if someone could tell me how exactly my score could be raised the fastest. I have 2 credit cards, one with $300, the other with $2,500. Each with 12%APR. I want my credit score to improve (i think its only 700) so whats the best way to go about it? Is it better to pay off a credit card in full or make payments? (My minimum payments are about $25 month, i always put at LEAST $60/month on each & was only late ONE time the entire 2 years i've had the cards) THANKS I already have 2 credit cards, i dont want to open a 3rd. Thats how people get into huge debt. I HAVE the money to pay off the card in full.. what i am asking is SHOULD i or just keep doing payments?
How can I raise my credit score? I have been on this up and down rollercoaster with my credit. Just at the beginning of the year my credit score was a little over 600, now it was ran a couple of weeks ago, and now the median score is a little over 550. I dont get it, I am on time with my payments, and I have not applied for any other credit cards or loans. I have signed up for a credit company that professionally disputes items on my credit report. Was that a good move? I also disputed items myself a couple of months ago, and SOME items were removed, but the score had not been updated yet, so how long does it take to update my score number. HELP! We are trying to buy a house in a year, and we will be making a lot of xtra income, is it better to pay off 1 of the 2 cars we have or is it better to save the money for a down payment. Oh another thing, we area single income family as I am a stay at home mom, and I intend to stay that way. So whats the best thing for me to do?
How can I raise my credit score? My credit score is about 540 right now. I had 3 credit cards that were maxed out. Than I had about 2-3 with some charges but they weren't maxed out. I could only pay the minimum so obviously it wasn't helping me to pay them off. Recently my dad transferred my balances over to one of his credit cards with a lower interest rate, so now I am paying him every month. I don't have a lot of late payments reflected on my credit (maybe 6 at the most). How long with it take my credit score to go back up?
How can I raise my credit score? I am nearly 30 and have never had a credit card. I rent my apartment, bought my (used) car with cash, and have never taken a loan. I hate debt. I have a reasonable amount of savings. However, this means that I have no credit. What steps can I take to get my credit score up reasonably quickly. How many credit cards? What type? Should I take a loan just to pay it off? Should I leave a balance on the credit card? Thanks a lot for the help.
How do I raise my credit score to what it should be? I just recieved a bunch of money. I used most of it to pay off all my debts. I have no outsanding loans and the history was very good. I just resigned from my last job, and found a new one a week later. I start that one in a couple of days. So of course my income for my new job has not kicked in yet. I tried to get a car loan, and everyone I go to pulls a low credit score and basically said my debt to income ratio is not good. They still see the outstanding loans, that I already paid off. How do I show that these loans are paid off, so that my credit score will be where it should be. I know its supposed to be higher.
How long does it take to raise a credit score? I just got my credit reports from two of the credit agencies. My score was 550 on one and 625 on the other. I've started to talk to a few collection agencies and have sent payments in full to a few others. My family needs to move sometime this summer. We would like to rent a bigger house... everywhere I look online they talk about checking credit ratings. This has me a bit worried. So, how long do you guys think it will take my credit score to improve after these debts are payed off? I also, only have one store credit card with a low available credit... I've never been late on that one (I've had it 3 months). Should I try to get one Visa card, as well, and keep a low balance? Would that help? That's good to hear about rentals. :-) I really don't have much on my report. No utilties are on it - good or bad. The only big thing is what I owe the government in college loans, and, I think I'll be paying that till I die. At least that shows up to date. Thanks for your answers, guys.
How do I raise my credit score? I'm standing on about a 600 credit score, which is poor to fair. How do I make this score go up over time? Please, only considerate answers, not answers like "pay your bills".
My Credit is now clean of dept, how do I raise my score? When I was younger I had a couple credit card problems. I finally got my act together around 3 years ago and cleared up all of my dept. I now have no outstanding depts and everything is clean. The only issue is, my credit score is now low. It states it is low because I do not have established credit (For one they do not have my job correct or my bank account information). And I can not get a credit card because my credit score is too low. It's a catch 22!! Only places I see for help are for people who have dept. I'm not in dept. I just need to raise my score. 1. how do I raise my score? 2. How do I have the correct information put on my credit information?
How can I raise my credit score? I'm 29 and have no outstanding debt other than student loans, which are in repayment and on time (always have been.) I've had a few accounts go to collections in the past, but never for more than $100. It's when I was young and irresponsible. They've all been paid off. I have no major credit flaws (eviction, divorce, etc.) yet I still can't get approved for the most basic department store card. I have had checking and savings accounts in good standing for over 10 years, a Visa debit card, plus the occasional utility bill in my name. I've never had a credit card, though. What are some things I can do to increase my credit score? Please be as detailed as you like. I have no errors on my report (I just checked) and I have paid off a car loan.
How do I raise my credit score? I'm so dumb in this area. Me and my husband both have around a 530 score. We need to buy a home and settle down ( we have 3 little girls). I have a truck loan and student loan on my credit. We have no credit cards. I just feel really lost and hopeless about the whole homebuying situation. Any one that has been in the situation please help. We want to do improvements as soon as possible, I dont want to have to wait over a year or two. Help if you can!
I want to raise my credit score from 570 up to 700 fast. How long would this take? OK I have $10,000 in student loans that I just started paying on. This is the only thing I owe on. I also have 1 credit card with a $250 limit which I know will help my score but I haven't been seeing an increase fast enough. I would like to increase my score 130 points in a year. Is this possible? I have not had a lot of credit established in the past. Just Medical bills that my insurance company recently paid, so that is why my credit score is so low. Also my student loan was in default. This credit card I recently got is my 1st card.
how to raise my Credit Score? I have paid off the debt that I had on my report but have like 3 or 4 charge offs on my report. Is there anyway to get rid of these charge offs or do I have to wait 7 years for them to go away? My current score in the low 500s and I desperatly need to raise it back up as I plan on buying a house in 3 years, any ideas?
How do I raise my Credit score? I have no late bills and nothing in collection (almost two years now). I have been making good money for near two years now. I had multiple credit cards but i got rid of most and kept the oldest and the newest i keep both without using them. I have paid off two vehicles in full with no late payments on either one and i have 2 current auto payments. my debt to income ratio is low (i make much more money than i spend). BUT MY FREAKIN SCORE HASN"T CHANGED IN 4 DANG YEARS...............WHAT DO I DO?
How long will it take to raise my credit score? My current credit score is 574. I have been paying my bills on time and haven't applied for more credit recently. I want to know if this process will take years or months. I payed off 2 credit cards recently with a loan i obtained. I also payed off another installment loan. Any idea of the point value on these types of transactions.
