credit repair companies - deal or dud? My husband and I are considering having a credit repair company clean up our credit. I have been working in this myself for about a yr and have increased our score by 50-60 points for each of us. The problem is there are certain things that just won't come off. Yes, the bad debt is legit from being young and dumb - but that a whole different topic in itself. I am told there are companies that can actually go in and change your credit report? How reliable is this info? Have you ever used one? Is it worth the cost? Any ideas?

Any good credit repair companies in the bay area? I've been trying to improve my credit score, I need to get a loan, and I've heard that the "rapid rescore" thing they offer is basically just disputing a bunch of entries at once, so they can approve you while the entries aren't listed, and afterwards they just come back verified and it's even worse than before. I tried disputing a few things myself, one wasn't even in my name, but it came back verified anyway O_o. I've seen plenty of advertisements for credit repair companies, but I've also heard plenty of horror stories about em (I work at a bank, go figure -_-). Does anyone have any past experience with companies around the bay area?

Please help. I am hoping someone can advice me on some good credit repair companies/attorneys.? I have just returned to the country after working overseas and gotten my credit report. It is awful. There are mistakes and perhaps a few things that are correct. All were based on emergency surgery I had with no health insurance. My story may be worse than some and better than others. I understand that they cannot legally do anything that I can't do and there is no guarantee that my score will improve - that I will basically just be paying for their services. I read online all the time about companies that repair your credit report, can that really be done? I get emails and read online about companies, like Lexington.com, that claim they can repair your credit report, "permanently remove negative items off your credit report". Of course, they charge a 99.00 start up fee, and then 79.00 a month. Considering a credit report can stop you from getting a loan, stop you from getting credit of any kind, it can stop you from getting a job. I wonder if anyone here on Yahoo Answers has tried this and if it really works? Thanks in advance for all your answers

Credit Repair? I had a credit card go into collections 18 months ago. I settled for payment less than full with the condition that It would be considered on my credit report as Closed Paid in Full. However on my report it states "Charge -OFF - Settled less than full. I have since contact the credit card company and received a letter that the accounts were closed and paid in full. How do I go about getting my credit report updated to raise my score? Also my current Score is a 670. What should my score raise to?

My credit report is outdated reflecting a negative score. Are there any companies to hire to help correct? I have a (really) bad credit score. I earned it in the late 90s (right after graduating college '97 - '99). Seven years have gone by but nothing has dropped off. I realize I need to start writing all the letters to the credit reporting agencies and get it updated and accurate. But I wanted to see if there were any companies out there that would write the letters and "fight the battle" to get my credit report updated and corrected. The normal credit repair companies are not really helpful as I am looking to have outdated items removed versus consolidation or payoffs. Any advice? Thank you!!
How can I succesfully repair my own credit ? Do credit repair companies work? I want to build or buy a house for my family .This is no joke , I have seven kids . So it's very important that I get a good P.M.I. and a good interest rate or I'll never be able to afford it.
