Should i work with a debt consolidation/repair company if my credit score is 518? My credit score is 518 so i dont qualify for any loans at any banks, not even P2P lending like prosper.com. I have been reading books about debt management and i am considering going to one of these companies. What is holding me back is that i know it'll show on my credit report and by doing so i'll practically be filing for bankruptcy. i have a goal to zero down my debt ($6,000) in 2008. after i do so i want to begin saving money and start looking for a house to buy, which i know is a hard and long process. I have a lot of black spots on my credit report but i think going to a debt program will make an even darker mark on my history. is it worth it for me to consolidate my debt? will my credit score ever grow to the 700 range i wish for? how hard is it to get a house after going to a debt program?
38 & Looking to Repair Credit Score (Personal and L.L.C.)? I had some very old debt that has caused me to have a very low FICO (568). SInce then have started my own business and want to get credit score all cleaned up. 2 Questions: Have checks in hand to pay the less than $2K in bad credit reports. I assume the best way to proceed is to get a secure credit card with a bank. 1.) How long to get a near perfect credit score using the secure credit card and making double payments every month? 2.) How can I get a company credit card so that my business can begin to build credit? Secure card in the company name? Cheers,
Question about Credit Repair/Debt Settlement? I have a bunch of negative, but unfortunately accurate, items on my 3 credit reports. They range in amount from a stupid little $28 to a whopping $6300 auto loan that is from 1995. What do i pay off? What do I dispute? Who do I contact first - Credit Bureaus for dispute or Creditors/Collection Agencies for settlement for removal? Will they really remove it from my reports? Do I deal with the the original creditor or the collection agency that is reporting it to the CRAs. My total debt is only about $11000, do you think I can turn my credit around? If so, how long do u think it will take? My scores are in the 540 range.
Credit card debt - payoff options? I lost my job just before major surgery and took 2 years to recover before I could return to my previous income level. During that time I incurred considerable CC debt - $25K. I'm now back at work and I have substantially increased my salary but because of some slow pays and maxed out cards my FICO has dropped 100 points and my interest rates have shot up to 30%! I expect to have enough extra income to pay off the debt in the next 2 - 3 years but I'd like to get rid of the high interest rate and repair my credit score. Will my new income level help my FICO score and help me get a low-interest card to roll everything over to? I don't think I can get an unsecured debt consolidation loan for 25K... or can I?
Paid off credit card debt!! now what??? real credit pros answer only!? Anyone Know A Good Credit Repair Agency? I've been looking at my credit scores for the past 2 years. I know where I stand but it seems like I can't seem to get a good grip on getting rid of my debts. Does anyone know a Credit Repair service for a mixture of debt? I have student loans, a credit card, and old cellphone contract on my report that's really holding me back. I've been paying on them, but nothing seems to be happening. I need more help. Any good Agencies out there, that will really get my scores raised and debt alleviated somehow?

Question on Loan to repair credit? my credit score is 580. I've been slowly repairing my credit. I'm 24 and messed it up when I was younger and didn't know any better then left it alone becuz I lost my job and couldn't handle the collection agnencies, etc. Anyway I was a kid then and now i'm trying to get it repaired. What I want to do is a debt consolitdation loan, so i can just make one payment instead of small various loans, my debt is split up with various collectors/debts but equal a bit less than 10k. It's just tough dealing with collectors, becuz i don't always have the money upfront and they want it all and it's hard to trust them. Anyway is there a place to get a loan? i've tried some banks, and credit unions but keep getting denied becuz my credit score is so low and the debts are on there and have been there for a few years; i just feel like i'm trapped between a rock and a hard place in order to get this fixed.
Installment loans help credit score? I am trying to repair some of my credit and heard that taking out installment loans, which only be to pay for my credit debt and paying off the loan before it's due will help out my credit score. has anyone ever heard this and does this really work, i need to build my score quickly within the next 6 months and pay off bad debt.
How can I legally repair my credit? I have very bad credit. At least 3000 dollars worth of credit card and doctors bills. I am wanting to pay this off, and try to rebuild my credit. After everything is paid off, how long before the creditors(actually collection agencies in my case) take the points of of your credit, and do they even do this? Will it really help if I pay it off, or am I doomed? I want to buy a new house, new car, and get a credit card, but I cant ( even though I make good money) before I get married- which should be soon. I see creit repair agencies and debt consolidators, but have heard they make matters worse. I would like to pay off my debts, but if it doesnt help my credit score-I feel like I could spend the money on other things.( I am a single mother, while I make good money-I dont have it to throw around). Does anyone know what I should do? I would like to add, that I do not have a large amount of credit card debt-it is very small. Most of my debt is medical.I also am not in any way saying that I make a great deal of money- but it is a very good amount for my age and experience. I can afford to make PAYMENTS on these items posted to my credit, but as of this moment ( holidays and all) I cannot pay them off- all at once. Would my credit report list who I should pay in specific ? I doubt very seriously that I have marks against my credit that are false, but if so it is worth a try to send them the correct info. Thanks for all of your help !Keep the great answers coming! I am taking notes!

Which credit card is best for building up a bad credit score? I have A LOW credit score. I am in the process of paying off debts to try to repair my credit. There are numerous credit card offers that claim guaranteed approval for a fee. Iwould like to use any tactic available to help buildmy credit. I am however affraid to fall victim to the "SCAM". Does any one have a possitive experince or advice on the options or other techniques for rebuilding credit.
How do I repair my credit after divorce? My x husband racked up 60,000 worth of credit card debt. In the divorce he was left with the responsibility of paying on that debt but he has been paying on all of it late and my name is on all of it. How do I start new and get my credit score up. I can't get a credit card and my credit score effects everything even my insurance rates.
Do unpaid phone/utilities collections effect your credit score? I unfortunately managed my credit poorly while in college, and now, over 10 years later, I am slowly trying to repair my credit. In addition to student loans, I have two credit cards in collections that I owe over $2000 total on. I also have a phone bill that has been in collections for 4 years (over $400) that I have not paid. They recently sent me a good deal to match payment dollar for dollar, essentialling cutting my debt to them in half. However, I heard that utilities are not a detriment to your credit score - collections or no collections. In prioritizing what gets paid first and what will help repair my dismal credit score, should I put the phone bill on the back burner compared to keeping my student loan up to date and pay off those two credit cards?
Credit Repair?????? I have recently paid off all my credit cards thru debt counseling, and 2 collections. How long will it take to improve my credit score with everyhting showing paid?

How Do I Repair Credit After 7 Years of Delinquency? How Long Does It Take? I asked the question as part of my previous one, but I'm hoping ot get more responses please. After 7 years of delinquency, the bad debt falls off my credit report, let's say I'm at a 400 credit score. How do I go about bettering my credit? How long would it take before I have a fairly decent one again? I am really hoping to rebuild my life and begin to better myself. Thank you
Will my credit score be repaired? I settled an dispute with verizon becuase they had sold my debt to a collector and now the collector damaged my credit score which is what I do not get since everything was fixed between me and Verizon. I recently paid the amount the collection agency wanted however the dispute was settled over 3 months ago. I just want to know how i can demand the collection agency to fix my credit score Since the problem had already been fixed. I just unfair that an $80 loan took 110 point off my credit score.
Credit card debt scenario..need some advice.? So, I have about $4400 in debt, which I have to payoff completely, but I am not sure the best way to help repair and save money now. I have one card that has $1200 and the limit is $1300. I have one in collections at $800, and one that is closed that $2400, limit at $2000, with an interest at 22%. I have the opportunity to settle the $2400 at $1900, with a 1099 on the difference. Should I save $500 or just payoff all of the debt? I want to start to raise my credit score, but it is really low, so the fact that I am paying off the others, even though I am settling on one, won't that offset the negative? Also, should I keep one open or just close them all? My wife has great credit, so we don't need one of mine open. This is what I get for not getting financial guidance when I was 18. All of this is from my 18-20 yrs. credit card mistakes. Bummer!
Do anyone know of a reputable Credit Repair Agency? I have several charge offs, and collections items on my credit report. I would like to get these items removed. The biggest challenge is with Experian they do not delete anything. I would like to purchase a home increase my score. I paid all my collection accounts and charge offs everything have zero balances three years ago. I only fell behind because I was taking care of a sick parent. My mistake was I never received or asked for a written letter from the creditor to remove it off my credit report after I paid it. At the time all I was thinking about 3 years ago was paying off my debt. Do credit repair work and is there any repair agency that is highly experienced with Experian. I tried the creditor but they will not work with me. I tried disputing all come back verified. I believe I need a experienced person to help with this. I'm in Southern California
Credit Cards: Have a Credit score of 720. Is there a way I can get a 0% BTR and still get rewards? Im 20 and have a full time pretty good paying job. However, had some car trouble lately and spent quite a lot to repair it. Anyways, after its all said and done I have $2500 in credit card debt. I want to transfer the balance so I can have some time to be at 0% APR. I assume it will be paid off about February because Xmas shopping is coming :( . Are there any good companies out there. I guess my Credit Score of 720 is considered "good"
How can I repair my credit? Like most college students, I got a few credit cards and didn't use them wisely. I didn't pay the bill on time, sometimes didn't pay it at all, then ran over the limit on both...one was a charge off, the other will be as soon as I pay it. As a recent college alum, I see what my irresponsibility has cost me and I want to start fresh and rebuild my credit. I have about 900 in debt to pay off. I work in retail about 35 hours/week, so I don't earn much, and live alone so I have little extra money. Any tips on paying it off? I also need to know what's the best way to rebuild my credit, and how quickly can I expect my score to improve? After I pay my debts off, should I open a new credit card and be more responsible? Please, no harsh judgements. I freely admit I made some BIG mistakes, which are now reflected in my credit score. I want to start fresh and manage my bills better. Any advice you can give me that will help is appreciated. Just don't insult me, I don't need that. Thank you!! Also, since my credit is terrible, what kind of credit card am I actually eligible to get? Most have very high annual fees, are there any for terrible credit that don't? Do I need to get unsecured or secured? Should I look into getting one now or wait until ALL debts are paid off (which is what seems wisest to me)? Thanks Also, I am working in retail as a college graduate because I just graduated in December and I'm going to grad school in the fall. I am working 2 retail jobs to pay the bills for right now; this is not my career. :)
I have horrible credit. How can I repair bad credit? I have horrible credit. I have credit cards that are not even delinquent anymore, but written off. I don't even want to know what my credit score is. My credit is so bad, that I can not get a cell phone without a deposit . I even have my home phone number unlisted so the debt collectors won't bother me all day. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can repair bad credit? Most of my stuff has already been written off, but there are a few things current still that I'm trying to clean up. I hear they can still collect on write offs too. Please help me! I need to fix my bad credit re-establish good credit!
i am looking for a web site that has good info on how to repair bad credit..any suggestions? i considered "eliminate bad credit for good on line sites" to my understanding they're scams...bankrupcy sounds like the last option and i'm not that bad in debt..less than 5000...i'm hesitant in contacting creditors and the "bureaus"..i'm not trying to put the cart before the horse but, if my credit score is let's say...544...how long ,realistically, would it take to have a decent credit score provided that i pay my debts???any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Check Systems any info how to repair credit? Free credit Reports available w/ no strings attached? I'm 24 now and when I was young and stupid I trusted my ex and we got a joint checking acct. ShouldI take out loans to boost my credit score! Do I need to get my credit score too?

Repairing Credit? Any suggestions on a company that can consolidate card debt, but do it for free? How do I build back my credit score? I have student loans and someone told me the best way to do this would be to pay off credit card debt and then slowly pay off my student loan becasue thats the biggest debt. Is this true?
Repairing Credit Scores? how do you improve a bad credit rating, i was a student and a little reckless with credit, literally ignoring creditors demands, throwing letters away without opening them, and not paying anything at all, now, i am trying hard to clear the debt which i racked up, admittedly a large proportion of this is interest and charges which i wouldnt have had if i paid it in the first place. Now my credit is unbeleivably bad, and i need it improving, as im scared it will affect my chances of getting a mortgage.... ever! i wont lie, it is so bad, i have contemplated leaving the country for a few years!
Best Credit Repair Books? i'm about to start fixing my credit report and score and i need to know the best books to try. a lot of my debt is past the statute of limitations and in collections.

personal loans? Is there such a thing as an individual loaning money to another? where a contract can be drawn up with the terms outlined? We need 20 000 to pay off debt and repair our credit score. My husband is in the military (anyone know of resources for a soldier with bad credit?) and just lost his job with a shady mortgage company. We are honest people and would do the same if WE were financially able...we need an out here. We've two kids under two. edited to add: he is in the NAtional Guard, part time, so thats how he worked full time for a mortgage company (whos, incidentally part of a class action law suit for not paying overtime - he worked 15 hours a DAY there) Also, we have ONE credit card, which we dont use! Too many expenses happened at once (medical, car, incorrect bank charges) that put us in a hole...THATS what happened, not carelessness, not frivoulous spending...the last time we ate out was last year at Christmas. I just want some HELP please, no caustic comments on something youve NO IDEA of. If you havent any helpful information, save your time and effort. Thanks
credit repair companies - deal or dud? My husband and I are considering having a credit repair company clean up our credit. I have been working in this myself for about a yr and have increased our score by 50-60 points for each of us. The problem is there are certain things that just won't come off. Yes, the bad debt is legit from being young and dumb - but that a whole different topic in itself. I am told there are companies that can actually go in and change your credit report? How reliable is this info? Have you ever used one? Is it worth the cost? Any ideas?

Is it possible to remove credit inquiries from my credit report? Over the course of about three months I went on a desperate auto loan shopping spree. I was trying incredibly hard to get approved under my own name with only a year worth of credit history because I have no willing/able co-signer. I've recieved about 20 inquiries and my credit score dropped over 50 points from the original 730 I had, bringing me from excellent credit to between fair and poor. Now I know that people usually say that you should stay away from "credit repair" agencies. However, I feel cheated to have these inquires draining on my credit report for the next two years when I've been responsible with my credit cards as I don't have a single late payment and I usually pay off half my debt or more every 2 weeks. Please advise.
will my credit be repaired? I had a credit card out there in my name that I never used personally but a family member did. The credit card account was sold to a debt collector and the balance is around $2000. I was wondering if the remaining balance was paid off by that family member will my credit be repaired or not? I realize that it will finaly show that it was paid, but will that fix my credit score at all? If it isn't going to be repaired the family member offered me a cash amount of $500 what should I do.
Repairing my bad credit? I got 2 credit cards when I was 18. I had them both for about a year and was very good with payments, never one late, then I had some tough times at my job and missed some payments and then all the fees just racked up, and I couldnt pay it anymore so I just stopped paying the cards. I owe them a combined 1,700 dollars. My credit limit isnt that much, most of what I owe now is fees, etc. One is a charge off with the credit limit of 400 bucks, but I owe them 1k because of the fees. Another is a 200 dollar credit limit which I owe 700, because of fees. I have a very good job now and looking to get a car and want to pay off my debts and help improve my credit score. Whats the best way to handle these fees? specially since the big bill is a charge off. Also I have a medical bill for 300 dollars for some xrays I had done when I broke my hand, and also a 500 dollar phone bill I couldnt pay cause my sister had so much in roaming charges. Whats my best way to improve my credit? I stopped making payments a little over a year ago. My Chase card is the one with the 700 dollar balance of what I owe, but only has a 200 dollar credit limit. That account is not a charge off, so if I pay that off, I can get a new card and start using that to make purchases and rebuild credit. Like I said I have a very good job now, and will have no problem paying off the debts I have now, just trying to go about the best way to fix my mistakes. Is there a way when I settle these that they might take it off my report? Or is that just gonna be me wasting my breath. I just checked my credit report the other day and it listed my 300 hospital bill in like the collections part, so it was on my report. I stopped making payments a little over a year ago. money, credit cards and real estate investing.....? Okay heres the question. I am expecting to receive about $16,000+ very shortly. Coincidently, I also have about 15,000 in credit card debt. I would like to begin investing in real estate. Would it be better for me to (A) take the money and pay off my cards or (B) take only a portion and pay off part of my debt, and keep the rest of the money for down payment/repairs on a real estate investment? My credit scores are 607, 671, and 649, so I have good credit. However, I do not have well documented income, so I will probably need to do a no-doc loan, and thus would probably need the money for a down payment and/or repairs. Please give your opinion.
Can I start building new credit without repairing old credit? I am about 3000 dollars (at most) in debt because of some emergency room visits I had between the ages of 17 and 21. I am now 22. I am in a bind, because I have to make an out-of-state move in 8 months, and I know I won't be able to afford the move, AND pay off the debt in that short amount of time. Someone advised me to just forget about the current debt i have (because allegedly medical debt is more explainable/exusable) and to start building new credit instead. Of course......I don't know how to do this if i keep getting denied. My credit score is very low, between 500 & 550 I think. Was this persons advice reasonable? Or even do-able? If so, how can I start building fast? Which card companies won't deny me? I'm very responsible. I only have medical debt. No other debts. (And please, only give me advice if you know what you're talking about. Don't reply just to get more points. It might confuse me.) I don't know if 500-550 is my accurate credit score. I just think I remember seeing these numbers. All I know for sure is that it said "VERY LOW" on a scale between very low and very high.
Repairing credit-Is it true old debts do go away after time? I am trying to get an apt., so I recently had my credit ran, thought I had really really bad credit, turns out I only have two recent accounts in collections, which I've already requested payments on. Credit not good, but it seems that all my old accounts from 7 years back are actually not there anymore affecting my score. Everyone and their mom kept telling me that after 7 years old debt goes away, and I never believed anyone. Is this true????
3 years of debt- Where do I start? Please HELP!? I am a statistic..when I was 18 I got a credit card.. Then another .. and I owe Verizon and Cingular for outstanding bills all occuring approx 3 years ago. I am in the process of saving up $ to pay off my debt ..(I want to buy a car & home in the future) and I don't know who I owe exactly, the amount owed .. I don't know where to start. I am scared because I have had no contact with any creditors and I really want to get my credit score up to par and repaired! thank you so much. I do not have a bank account and cannot get one and have been denied an account, I owe Washington Mutual approx 500$
Where can I get some financing for a new or used car if my credit is not too hot right now??? My credit score is 418, I lost my job last year and it took me about a year to get another one. I could not keep up with my bills and they all went into collections. I only had 4 months left to pay off my car and could not even do that, now it is showing up as a repo on my credit and I still have it. I was never late on any payments until my stroke of bad luck and now I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I currently make $50K a year and with my bonuses and incentives I can easily make $200K. I'm a college educated sales professional, but when people are pulling up my credit report they think I'm some dead beat. It's as if no one else has ever been through rough times financially and its driving me crazy. On top of that my current car(98' Nissan pathfinder) is worth $4,500 and needs $6K in repairs. I've paid off two of my debts so far and will probably be debt free by December; but I need a car NOW. If someone can help me find financing it would be greatly appreciated. thanks!!!
