Are there better ways to improve your credit score besides a secured credit card? I'm trying to improve my credit score(530) and am going to get a Bank of America secured credit card. It has a $29 annual fee and a 20% APR. Is there another proactive way to dramatically improve my score without having to face such high interest rates? btw, I havw already dealt with my bad credit past. I'm looking for things to build my credit, not fix it. thanks!

I plan on paying them all down to less than 25% balances in the next 3 months. My credit score is now in the low 600's. Do credit cards improve your credit score? Im trying to improve my credit score, (which is in the medium poor range), I just opened an unsecured credit card with a small credit limit, (300$), I was thinking of opening another small acount, Would opening an additional small account and keeping both accounts in good standing improve my credit score more or less than just maintaining the one account that I have opened?
Which of the 3 ways to improve your credit score? My brother's credit card score is a "C" no past due amounts, but he owns his own business and all the credit cards are very close to the max amount owing. Even though he pays every month on time, the interest rate went very high because of the debt to income ratio. So would it be better to try and get all the credit cards balance owing less than 50% of the total credit available or pay off the higher interest rate card first or the debt-snowball method. What would be the best for start getting approved for low interest credit cards? For years he had credit cards to run his business with low interest rates, but as soon as his balance owing got close to the maxium amount of credit available, his interest rate went sky high. I have been told to pay off the higher interest rate card first, but then other people told me to tell my brother to get all the credit cards below 50% of the total amount of credit available to improve his credit card score.
How much will your credit score improve after a collections has been removed? I just checked my credit report recently and there was an error on it that I disputed. They are now in the process of removing it from my report. I'm sure the answer is no, but is there any way to tell how much my score will go up when it's removed? I don't remember what it was before that faulty collections was put on there, but I know it will go up from what it is now.
Does this improve your credit score? Will doing the following have different effects on your credit score? If you pay your credit card bill right after your statement date v.s paying it right before the due date? If so, how big is the difference?
How long does it take to improve your credit score? We have consumed a lot of debt the past couple years b/c I've been sick. I am doing thankfully better now, and we are focusing on paying off all of our debt over the next 2 years (we are very realisitic) How long does it normally take to see an improvement in your credit score?
Have you thought about buying a car through people that say they can improve your credit score , ask me 1st.? In Jan.03 I purchased a car, 2000 neon for just under $12,000 and it was financed at, I was told 24.8, but turned out to be 24.9, and was suppose to be 4 years and I thought about $22,000 but its five years and $27.669 something like that, I gave $1500. down which did not come off the price, they found other uses and charges for it. So after paying $220. every two weeks for 3 1/2 yrs I still owe about 9,500 and probably wouldn't be able to sell for $1,000 if I tried to sell it, and after checking to see if I could trade my car off none of this money (HUGE MONEY) has done anything to better my credit score. It is just a big money grab and to make people pay loads of interest when your already in trouble in the first place.
How long does it take to improve your credit score by 50 points? I am paying my payments on time. I have completed a credit clean up where I went in and disputed problems on my report. I am in the process of paying down my credit card balances to less than 25%. This should be complete within the next two weeks. If I continue to pay my bills on time, don't accrue more debt and decrease my credit card balance, how long will it take me to increase my score by 50 points?

How is one supposed to know how much you have to pay in order to improve your credit score? For instance... I'm currently 597, which is considered poor. The scale states I need to be at 620 to be considered fair. I have two credit card bills that I'm paying off, one is $3000 and one is $2000. So in order to get those 24 points to be "Fair", how much money do I need to pay on these bills? Like if I pay $500 on the $3000 bill, will that give me the extra 24 points? I don't understand how that works. Is there like a scale somewhere that shows how much you have to pay in order to get X amount of points?

How long to improve credit score? My husband and I are trying to purchase a house. He has a decent salary and we can afford it. I pulled our credit yesterday to see that his credit score is a 585?! We have had all of our major debt paid off for 12 months now. There is one credit card with a nearly maxed out balance (but still only $1000) and a medical bill in collection for $60. Our new plan is to pay down the credit card to $300 over the next two or three months and take care of the $60 debt. How long will it take for his score to improve? We'd like to wait for it to get better before we apply for a loan. Any other credit score raising tips would be appreciated!
Does your credit score really improve after 7 years? I have been told by many people that if you have something bad on your credit that after 7 years it disappears. Is this true? If so what exactly do they mean by that? Do you still owe the money and it just doesn't show up on your credit report as a bad mark or does it mean that everyone erases your debts after 7 years? I have always been confused by this theory and would just like a little clarification.
