International credit score - no credit history in the US?

I have applied for a credit in the States (I am an American living in Germany and am planning on moving back soon), but I have no credit history in the States. Is there a way to have my good credit history in Germany be "transfered" to the States? What banks work here on an international basis?? Any suggestions?

  1. Generally, Europe doesn't have the credit reporting system that the US has. People hate the credit scoring process and the fact that your credit history is just a click away from a prospective lender. Your current dilemna illustrates the benefits of the US system vs the European system which generally doesn't collect data with the same efficiency and make it readily available to lenders. There are many US banks with offices in Germany. I'd start there while still in Germany and determine whether you can fund a bank account and be allowed a credit card or line of credit with a small credit limit to get started. I think you'll find that US banks with German locations are familiar with your type of situation and can help you.
  2. Actually, there is. Even though credit profiles do not transfer from country to country, you can get credit in your new country by asking for a credit of reference from your creditor in your old country. Just read the article I found below on this. Good Luck
