Army background check & credit history?

I have an excellent credit score but some bad credit history. Which is going to affect me more during security clearance to become a warrant officer as a pilot? Credit score has improved drastically & is actually very good now but i'm worried about the credit history? How will this affect my security clearance?

  1. Be honest on the security questionnaire. They will find out the truth and will deny you for lies. If you have unpaid obligations, pay them off. Fix them however you must. Honesty is most important. If you smoked weed, you better tell them. If you haven't don't worry about it. If you've fixed your credit problems, you should be ok. If you haven't, there may be issues.
  2. A basic security check, usually results in a "SECRET" clearance. Your few past mistakes will not effect you for this clearance or as a warrent officer pilot candidate. Keep yourself straight, for if you require a "TOP SECRET" later in your career, you issues with money could be a problem (but at that point, they will be so far in your past, it will not be an issue). You should be fine! Just ALWAYS be honest when you are asked questions about it. Good luck with your chosen career path! I'd do it all over again!
  3. You should be good to go up to secret for sure. Top secret shouldn't be a problem if you don't now owe large amounts to anyone. Crypto?....you probably wouldn't have to have that as a pilot.
  4. Credit is a huge issue...my husband has TS Crypto and someone stole his identity, he had a 40,000 car purchased in his name, more credit cards than we ever even knew they made...you name it and it was on his credit. It was so bad he was issued a new ss#...well he was refused a position at the White House Communcations due to the fact someone stole his identity. It took us 3 years of court hearings and procedures to clear it all up.
