Is a credit score of 581 really bad?
Just curious, I have no idea how this whole credit number thing works.

- Its not really great. If trying to get a loan, you would probably have a bit of a problem. Try to get your score up a bit higher, over 600 would be better.
- its not the best. if you try to get a loan for something, you may need a co-signer. try payday loan companies or rent to own places just to try to up your score .(try only if you are looking to buy something big in the next year or so)
- It certainly isn't great, but who cares? You only need a FICO score if you are planning to go into debt. I'm in debt; I have been in a hell of a lot MORE debt than I am now; I SWEAR it is NO FUN to be in debt (even a little). Therefore, I hope you will consider living w/o ever borrowing. We quit doing it in 2002. It is so hilarious to pay cash for a car or computer & have the airhead clerk look at you like you're a mobster. One even had to ask her mgr if they were allowed to accept "that much" ($700) in cash. The link below has podcasts & whatnot of the guy whose plan we followed. We only bought a $20 book, so don't think I'm trying to get you to sign up for some dumb "debt mgmt" company or any of that crap. This guy is simple & genuine. He gets criticized for being a 1 trick pony, but there is no "trick" & his plan works.
- Yes that is a poor score. Not the worst, but you will have trouble qualifying for loans and if you do qualify you will receive high interest rates.
- It's low. You really need to make an effort to pay all your bills on time. It makes a big difference. And if you have open credit lines that you aren't using, close them.
- In most cases credit in the way people get themselves in a finaccial mess. Most of you do not need a credit card.
