Credit Card Dispute at a car shop?

I took my car in to a shop to get work done on it. I paid 2100 for the work of the car and got an invoice and a copy of the cashier check I paid the guy at the shop(i know I didnt use a credit card and I thought my car was done) well guess what? the shop folded on me and left my car UNFINISHED even though I paid for work that was suppose to be done. The guy passed it on to a auto shop next door and they mentioned they were going to finish my car really fast. Now there seems to be "problems" with the car and its not ready even though I paid the first shop. They are telling me the first shop subcontracted work to them and most of it is unpaid so I owe the second shop money. my question is. I think its unfair but to get my car im forced to pay. Can i pay with my credit card and then dispute the charge considering I paid the first shop and have the invoice and the cashier check reciept? Just thought I would ask and if its even worth it. Thanks guys

  1. If yo do not pay the 2nd shop they could put a mechanics lien on it,charge you storage and after 30 or so days they will file on you and you will probably lose the car !!
  2. well its like this....did you sign a work order with the second shop.......... if you didnt.... they have no recourse they have to release your car........no way around it......as for the first shop....in the office you will see a sign with a 1-800 number on it.... its to the bureau of automotive regulations...if you call that number they will send and investigator out.......if the first shop did not fix you car......you are in titled to a refund....dont waste time with small claims court...once the investigator gets involved more than likely he will demand that they give your money back........they have no choice...no one wants the state on there butt.......and besides his decision is final
