TransUnion Dispute?

I recently purchased a credit report from TransUnion (TrueCredit) and was shocked when the report contained all accounts owned by my brother mixed in with my accounts. Our names are similar; different middle initials and share a previous address (our parents). But shouldn't the report be based on SSN?

  1. It should, and that is what is going to allow you to get things fixed. This isn't necessarily TransUnions issue, but they do need to fix it, it could be the company reporting it to TU. If you go to there website, you will see what they require to fix it. Same thing happened to my brother in law, his fathers bad credit was mixed in with his good credit. They both had same name, same prev. address but differnt ss#. It took about 3 months, but eventually he got it all fixed up. Just remember to stay on top of it.
  2. Yes, dispute the negative accounts that are not yours immediately (as well as any other negative accounts.) You can also dispute any personal information that is not yours.
