Can I be held responsible as an authorized user on my ex husbands credit cards?
He charged a fortune, and put my name on many cards. They are now coming after me. I have disputed it on the credit form, but a more serious problem is, can I still be held responsible for it? I am not sure if I actually used any of the cards. What if I did? Can they freeze your bank account? Garnish your wages? Just where would I be responsible?

- When you first learned of this, you should have contacted the credit cards and told them what your sleazy ex was doing. Now you have to call and try to get all of it off your credit, because bad credit lasts for like 7 yrs I think. Maybe you can also call the fraud dept. and beg for mercy....
- don't ask a serious question like this on the net. get to a lawyer.
- i work for a bank and we have problems like this all the time. you are definitly held accountable for this. they can come after your money know matter where you have a checking acct. even if it's your name only. the smart thing to do is open an acct for your child and use it like that because they won't be able to touch it because ur childs name is on it. anything with your name on it u are totally responsible for. but you really need to get a lawyer about that and also talked to the people at your bank to see how they can help you out.
- Get a Lawyer, you legally are responsible unless you get your name off the Card.
- You are definitely responsible if you signed something. Your signature is saying "I will pay if he doesn't pay". If you think he just added your name then call the credit card company, tell them you never signed anything and ask for proof that you gave authorization. That's about your only way out.
- None of the above are correct. If you truly are just a authorized user and not a joint or co-signer, you can not be held responsible for any charge made on the account. Get a copy of your credit report and look at the left side under the credit card companies name. There will either be a J for joint, a C for co-sign or a A for authorized user. If it's a J or a C you are responsible, if it's a A you are not.
