If I dispute something on my credit report , how can I do it?

Is it better to write a letter and mail it to the credit beauru ? Or is it better to use the generic form they have online? Thanks :)

  1. It is 100x better to write your own letter. I am a credit repair specialist. You can find some of the sample letters I use for clients (and myself) below: I will also add a link for sample validation letters that you can send to collection agencies. Good Luck and keep disputing! Don't give up if they didn't delete your negative accounts the first time!
  2. I would recommend by mail. This way you can send any copies of the proof of your dispute at the same time. When you do send it make sure you send it by Certified Mail. If you do send it On-Line they will still respond to you through the mail as to the result. So if additional information is needed you will have to send it by mail any ways.
  3. As someone who regularly has the task of reviewing these disputes for my bank, the online disputes are much easier to read and correct. It is also much faster. Have you tried contacting the actual creditor you have the dispute with? They are the ones who will receive your dispute and either correct it or return it as accurate. The bureau can only delete it if the original creditor does not respond at all to your dispute. If you were legitimately late, then they have no obligation to change your credit report. But if you have documentation/proof you paid on time, then I would recommend sending copies of that proof along with a copy of your credit report to your original creditor. They can help you if there is an error. Good luck!
