Credit In My Name at 12 Needs To Be Cleared-Help!?

An account with bellsouth was opened in my name when I was 12 years old. I am 19 and found out about it when I checked my credit report for the first time at 18 years old after I started college because i kept getting turned down for student cards. I contacted the collection agency (CBCS) and bellsouth, neither helped me figure anything out. I put in a dispute online, but that still leaves the account open and my score is now a 525 and the account has been delinquent for almost 7 years now (transferred to collections in 2001). Does anyone know how I can clear this without having to pay the bill? Bellsouth (and most phone companies) only require a social security number to open a line. They do not verify age or anything

  1. You should ask your parents about this...
  2. You can also file a dispute with the agency that has the record on file. Depending on which one of the three big reporting agencies has it. It takes quite awhile to clear up, so keep on them. It's hard to believe that a company would let you open an account at 12, so that should be in your favor.
  3. you need to file a report with the police. Sounds like your a victim of identity theft.
  4. your parents sure did screw you over. gees theres alot of that going on from what i see on here.
  5. You can contact all 3 major credit bueros to dispute this as long as you can prove that you were under 18 they will be lifted from your credit report. After 7 years of a past due account it will be remove from your credit report.
