  4. debt consolidation loan? take that with a pinch of salt, see citizens advice and make sure you have all your bills with you, don't go down the road of loans, re-mortgages or any sort of credit, if you have or have had a bad credit history, the last thing you need is more credit!
  5. When David Bach was on Oprah he said that you need to pay off your credit cards and pay all your bills/loans on time. If you have credit card debt, you need to look at which card has the lowest interest, pay the highest interest ones off first by paying more on those and the standard amount on the lowest cards. Or just pay off the cards with the smallest amounts first while still paying on all your other cards paying the standard amount. Once you get rid of the smaller cards, still pay out that money per month on the larger cards. It all depends on you and what you want to do. He said that when you don't pay on your credit cards, they have the right to increase your interest rate and sometimes you don't even know that so check your bills regularly. Don't skip payments. Pay on time every month. If you don't, this is what can mess up your rating. He also said you could negotiate on some major cards the interest rates if you call and talk to them directly and get them to lower your interest rate. A couple on Oprah said that they paid off what they could and after six months their score increased for the better. So it take some time but you need to be consistent in your efforts.
  6. Unfortunately, there's no quick easy fix. A friend of mine applied for and received a consolidation loan. She's in the process of paying that off. Personally, I am in a similar boat. I am paying as much as I can on the credit cards I have. I pay early and if I have anything extra at the end of the month, I put the extra money towards the highest interest card. Suzi Orman offers some great financial advice in her books. She has several out now. Check them out at your local library. I also agree with everything the one poster said that she saw on Oprah.
