
can a credit report be cleared of bad debt after 7 yrs?
is there a statue of limitations on the items that are on the credit report? how do i begin the process of cleaning up my credit report? how do i fix my credit score also? most of the items are charged off yet they are still on the report. i can get a credit card or anything and it has been over 8 yrs.

- Depends on the type of bad debt and the dollar amount. If you were to write the credit agency and tell them that they've made a mistake, they must, by law, investigate the accuracy of the report and contact the creditor. This is very time consuming so many times, they will simply erase what ever you dispute without checking. As I said though, it depends on the type and $ amount, but it costs you nothing to send a letter other than the stamp so it is worth doing. It worked for me.
- Write letters to all 3 credit reporting agencies disputing the old charge offs and any other negative entries. Send them certified. The agencies are obligated to do an investigation. If the companies who want your money cannot find the original paperwork concerning your debt within 30 days, it has to be taken off your report.
