Credit Repair?
I made some bad choices, and it has ruined my credit...counting medical bills and school loans its around 15k. Has anyone used one of those programs that combines them all in to one payment? Do they really help your credit? Other options? Thanks, Tom

- You may consider talking to professional debt expert at websites like http://askexpert.info/debtadvice.htm
- No, They don't because you will have accounts that say that they were paid less that the original amounts. They will still have derogs attached to them. The school loans are serious, there is no SOL protection. Medical bills can be a problem if they are at government owned hospitals. The nice thing about medical bills is you can pay the doctors directly and not pay the collection agencies. Collection agencies take 40% or higher, its better to pay the doctors. Go to www.creditboards.com and read up before you hire any companies to help you.
- I would also bookmark the site listed below. It is all about credit repair and still under developement, but so far this looks promising and I subscribe to the RSS feed. I hope they let readers contribute because i have some input I learned from this myself. You can fight what is on your credit report and I would go to this site and start that before trying to open anymore credit accounts!
- Yes, I used one and your credit improves in the long run. If you have 15k against your credit right now, it is likely crunching you pretty good. Check out the free evaluation form at www.totaldebtsolutionsllc.com They or one of their partner firms will contact you with a solution. Good luck.
- Most if not all of these so called "debt consolidation campanies" are a scam. they dont do anything that you cant do yourself. What they will do is not pay your creditors for months and then try and settle for less. No special skills. They just dont pay. Also, if you use one of these companies and they dont pay your debt. You, and you alone are still responsible for the debt. They will sue you and not the company you hired.
- The good news about bad credit is that it can be repaired. I am very sorry you are in this situation, I really am. Credit repair, while it is not an over night process, can be done. In addition, it can be done without a combo loan. You know, creating more debt. In addition, depending on your method of credit repair, the collection calls, etc. will stop. I know, I own both a collection agency and credit repair business. I don't have enough information about your situation, however, I do hear some positive things from you. You acknowledged your past error, You seem ready to resolve the problem, You are willing to listen to suggestions, You did NOT ask about bankruptcy, and, all things considered, while 15k is a lot of money, it is not the national debt. Chin up, you have options. Feel free to email to discuss them. Good luck.
