how do I improve my credit score?

- Keep a small amount of money (50-100$) in your credit card account as a surplus. EXAMPLE: If your Credit bill is for 150 $, you deposit 200$. Whenever a restaurant, etc. checks your credit, you`ll always be in the black.
- It depends what has happened in the past. Some people have low scores because they are young and/or have never borrowed money. Other people have low scores because of past problems. Here is my advice for the "past problems" category. 1) Mostly what you need is time. You need time to pass for any late payments, collections, etc. to become over 7 years old (81 to 84 months). When they hit 1 year old and 2 years old, your score comes up some. It takes 7 years for these to go away completely. 2) Pay everything on time. 3) Pay all debts in full. You never want "paid a lesser amount" on your credit report. 4) Use less than half of your available credit. 5) Don't apply for new credit constantly. The link below is to the company that invented the most popular, FICO credit scoring system.
- 1st get obtain your credit file from all 3 credit agencies. In the UK, they are called Call Credit, Experian & Equafax. You must get all 3 because they all are connected some how and also from experience if you fix one, the others could be out of date. When you get your files go through each one and see what they say. If you have something that you do not agree with then you can write to the credit agencies and explain and they will speak to your creditors on your behalf. If the creditors disagree you can add an Notice of Correction on your file and this allowed. You can google this and it tells u how to write one. The reason for this is that when new creditors check your file, they can take this into consideration. If there is stuff on there that is out of date (after 6 years) get them to remove it. To obtain credit, you can build up your rating by getting some bits of credit, like mobile phone, catalogue. Pay for 6 months and the get some more. The more you pay, the more you can get but always say within budget. Keep within your credit limit with your bank. Also if you have lived with someone and you are no longer with them, its best to dissocate with them financially because they can also cause problems. - Always pay back MORE than just the minimum amount on every bill. Pay something every pay day if at all possible. My minimum amounts are around $20. I always pay anywhere from $60 to $100 every payday.
