1. get a copy of your credit report, any negatives on there, either call he company and dispute it, some will not bother to fight, or pay them off, but before paying them off, amke sure you get a guarantee in writing that they will remove the negative as opposed to just marking that it has been paid.
2. If you have bad credit, do what Zorro talked about. If you have NO credit, what I did was apply for every credit card you can find, and eventually one will accept you, probably with an insane interest rate (20% +). Just use the card sparingly, like to pay for gas or something, and be sure to pay more than the minimum payment each month, but it is usually good to keep at least a small balance on there (don't pay it off in full each month, or they won't make any money off of you and won't give you a better credit score.) Thats how I started and now I'm 23 with a credit score of 739. Hope this helps!
3. You can obtain a free copy (1x/yr) at annual free credit . com Go over it thoroghly. If there are any duplicates or errors, write each bureau ask for full documentation n the errors and explain why it is an error and or duplication. Close credit accounts with the lender not in use. Be prepared to provide documentation if the account is paid,etc. Good luck
