Is this a good FICO score?
I was watching Suzie Orman on Oprah today and she was talking of FICO scores. I went online and got my FICO score. It is 535 - 585. Is that good? What does it mean? P.S. I'm 18. How can I get it corrected? i tried www.annualcreditreport.com and they said they couldnt give me the info via online.

- Anything under 650 is poop.
- F.I.C.O. reports from 300 to 850. Your score is not good, it's in the sub-prime range and at only 18 you need to find out why and get it corrected.
- I saw and read that anything above 630 is fair. Below that is poor. John 17:3.
- First review all three credit reports to see if the info in them is accurate (www.annualcreditreport.com). At 18, you may not have much of a credit record and it could be a case of lack of credit history rather than bad credit history.
- FICO score is an appraisal of one of the 3 US credit reporting agencies. This number determines, many times, your eligibility for obtaining credit cards, mortgages, etc from a lending institution. At age 18, though, I'm not sure you should be concerned about what your score is and how it impacts you. The average 'good' score for US residents is 680. The highest is, I believe, 850. That's the best FICO score anyone can achieve. So you can see your score of 535-585 is not necessarily a good number. Not too worry, though. Several factors are leveraged together to come up with a person's score: The number of jobs you've had, the number of times you've moved or changed addresses, any liens (which you dont need to worry about just yet), your credit card payment history and other public liens placed against your credit. If you are just starting to become aware of credit cards and FICO scores, this is a good rule to follow: always, always pay your bills on time. It doesnt matter if it's Macy's bill, your phone bill, or whatever bill(s) you have: Just always pay them before their 'due' date. do this, and you're credit score will skyrocket.
- That is low.
- Speaking as a nationally known credit score and lending expert (book, radio shows, newspaper columns..) Suzie Orman knows what she knows from reading MY book! Your score range is low and "poor". Depending on which bureau, scores range from 336 to 900. Each bureau has a different high/low score range. Generally, 700-720 area is good and above average. You can do ANYthing the world of credit has to offer (auto, mortgage, whatever) with 740+ scores. The consumer credit scores you saw are NOT the scores that creditors or lenders get--and they are too misleading, but hey! What do you expect from greedy, multi-billion dollar companies that refuse to comply with federal law?
