- You should inform the bank and close all his accounts including credit cards. It is a matter of respect to your departed father. Do it.......
- When my dad died, they automatically closed everything..even his bank accounts, with my mom as a joint account holder..boy, was it hard for her to get her money to pay the funeral costs..
- The credit cards will have a customer service number on the back call them and tell them what you should do. Im sure this happens alot and they have a procedure in place. It will probably involve you having to prove he dead by providing some evidence.
- If you have the cards the number for customer service is on the back of them, contact them and tell them the situation. If you don't have the cards and have the bills the number to call will be on there. Sorry for your loss.
- Did he have a will? How is the executor? Most likely they will not want to talk to anyone without some sort of permission. You will most likely have to provide a letter stating when he died and ask that they close his accounts. You will also have to place an add in the paper and give anyone a chance to make claim to his estate for anything that he might have owed. I think it has to run for 3 consecutive weeks. If he did not have a will you might be looking at probate court and they can advise creditors. Sorry for your loss.
- There should be numbers on the bill statements, call them and let them know your dad is no longer living..
