- Anything that is negative on your credit report will remain for 7 years from the date of last activity, but paying off bad debts will increase your score, as well as make you look like such a future credit risk to potential creditors. It is true that time is the biggest factor in improving your credit score, as the greater the time since your last late payment, the higher your score will climb. You will need to be patient and begin a pattern of paying on time to increase your credit score. Good luck to you.
- you may need to check up on this one. your credit score can only really grow through good payments of credit. the way i increased mine a few years back. If i needed a shirt for example - your always offered a store card, put it onto the card, and then pay it off, (no interest charged) - do this continually. when i say pay it off, i mean literally, clear the balance for the goods fully. do this with numerous items. i even went to the extreme of paying for my groceries with MasterCard, sitting in my card after shopping and paying it off there and then. i did this with every purchase i would normally pay cash with. gradually your score will have lots of green (made payments) with no defaults, all through reputable credit companies. I found that if i had a credit card for example with say 3k on it. If i cleared it instantly i wouldn't benefit as well as if i paid it off over 4 months say. I might be wrong, but my score went from 322 to 940ish in about 12 months. maybe i did it wrong, I'm not 100% - but it worked for me anyway.
- If you start working on bettering your credit now, your score will climb. It is true that information stays on your report for 7 years. So it will negitively impact your score. But if you start showing a trend of better behavior that will be taken into the factoring also. If you are an American citizen you are entitled to a free report from the major 3 credit agencies once a year. You can get it through the link below. The 3 agencies also have information on their sites on what brings a score down and how to raise your score. Good luck.
- Well..Its true and it's not true once you show good faith in paying your record should improve at least here in California. It took me forever to get above 600 and if it wasnt for my Bank taking a chance on me and Fingerhut I would still be in the low 500.Try to apply for something like fingerhut I know its cheesy but hell it helped me ,make sure you make your payments on time.
- In addition to some of the other suggestions, like using credit cards and paying them off right away (great for Airmiles BTW).. If you can do it - consider direct withdrawl payments for some of your utlilties (ie phone, cable, light). This reflects well on your financial solvency and responsibility and cultivates the appearance that you don't need to "sweat the small stuff". This is apparently one of the things that impresses credit agency types..
