Is having more than 1 credit card with zero balances a good way to boost my credit score, or is 1 card enough?

  1. Depends on a lot of things, did you ever miss a payment, late for a payment? Building credit requires time and effort. Most of your "big" credit is going to be built on home loans and car loans rather than credit cards.
  2. having one card is better; if they see all your open accounts they see that as ability to increase debt further!! having multiple credit cards is how many people get into trouble--don't do it! having a zero-balance on multiple accounts is NOT good enough--you have to actually CLOSE the accounts
  3. One of the biggest mistakes people make is to close accounts. When applying for a Home loan the lender wants to see a minimum of 3 accounts that show you are credit worthy. In order to build your credit you have to have open accounts. This shows that you were able to obtain credit. Just don't go crazy and not pay. Next, you have to show that you are responsible by making payments on time. Creditors look at how many accounts you have and for how long; if you've ever been late, how many times; and the balances. If at 0 balance on all cards for how long? Think about it, if you have 0 balance does it show that you are timely with your payments? No, it only shows that you do not use credit. Once again, you have to show that you are able to pay on time.
