- annualcreditreport.com is the ONLY site that allows you to get your credit report truly for FREE. Unless you go to each of the bureus sites individually. freecreditreport.com is not free. You sign up for a credit monitoring service when you request your report with them, and it will ask you for a credit card number to bill you.
- They all stink. They are money traps that require credit card information before you get the "free" reports. In the fine print you allow them to "fix" things on your report and charge you for it via your credit card. They billed me $300 in two days for "correcting" two things they thought were wrong. After about a week of fighting with them they reversed the charges. Don't fall for it, you can get your reoport for free from any credit reporting company.
- Do not trust any free credit report sites except those officially authorized by the Federal Trade Commission which include the 3 main companies that compile your credit score (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion). My source includes official government information regarding free credit reports and how to get one. It doesn't make sense to trust other credit reporting sites when you can get information officially from those that actually compile your credit score. "The law allows you to order one free copy of your report from each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies every 12 months."
