If i dispute an item on my credit report, and if is investigated as being correct, does my score lower?

If i "dispute" an item on my credit report, and if is investigated as being correct, does my score lower? How many items can I dispute at one time, can I dispute all 10 of these collection items.. I know some are valid, but if they do not respond within 30 days they will be deleted correct? Can they be re-added later once they are deleted??

  1. it will show up on your credit report as in dispute and a 30 day no answer is not an automatic erasure either. If its in your favor it will be removed but it will not affect your score that much. Only way they can be readded is if you opened up a new account with them
  2. Please ignore zyberianw's answer, as it's just another example of the idiotic answers that were not researched. He simply doesn't have a clue. So lets start over...I think you already know the answers. ;) If you dispute a negative entry, and it has been "verified" by the creditor, it will not change your score. All that happens is an entry is added showing you are disputing the listing. Comments play no role in calculating your credit score, and in most cases creditors ignore them. You are allowed to dispute at many entries as you like (it doesn't hurt your score at all). You are encouraged to carefully examine your report and dispute not only the validity of a debt, but any errors in the reporting. Many times the reporting date, balance, or credit limits are incorrect and you can get the whole item deleted for these small errors. Note that no real investigation is ever done. All that the credit reporting agency does as "verify" the debt. That means they call the creditor and ask if the debt is valid. If the creditor says it is, then the listing stays. What you need to do is send the creditor a "demand to validate" letter, and force them to prove you owe the debt, and supply you with copies of contracts, bills, receipts, and everything they used to calculate what they claim you owe. Many times they either don't have this information, or do not want to waste their time searching for it. No verification information and the CRA must delete the entry. Can it be re-added? Yes. But you simply go through the dispute process again. As you know, you can not delete accurate and verified information from your credit record. If they re-add it, it can end up staying there...but the creditor has to follow the rules. See the link below for help on this subject. Good Luck
