How can I increase my credit score?
I just got my credit report and score. To say that it's not good would be a major understatement. Many of the accounts are old. If I pay them off will that help? My big accounts like my car and student loans are up to date and in good standing. I have a judgement against me which I have been making payments on and will be done paying this month. I know this will stay on my credit for 10 years even after I've paid it, but is there a way I can start building my score as I pay these debts? All the old accounts are either in collections or have been charged off. I don't have any open accounts.

- yes, pay off your old debt and u will see over time it will go up... Never be lagte on your payments..
- Its a good idea to get rid of most of those cards. Having either 1 or 2 cards is best. Review your credit report and make sure there is nothing fraudulent or incorrect, you could get those taken off. Also see what companies are making requests, lots of requests makes your score go down. Pay on time, consolidate your cards down to 1 or 2 and your score will go up.
- Open some new credit accounts and always pay it off. If you are not going to be able to pay it in full, don't buy whatever it is. Consistently making timely payments on credit cards or loans is the only way to build your credit. In essence your credit report is telling any potential lendor or creditor how good you are at paying your bills. If they look at your report and see that you messed up a while ago, but now days you do pay your bills in a timely mannor, they will be much more willing to extend you credit.
