Too late to dispute, ask for validation of a debt?

If one has received a collecton letter from a debt collector, and it is just a few days past the 30 day mark, from the date of the letter. Can one still send a letter of verification of the debt to said agency, and of course send a letter of dispute to the credit bureaus, to ensure the best strategy for dealing with this? The accounts are credit card, and they do list the name, and account number, however, there are no terms and the like listed on the letter, just a name of creditor, amount, and a account number. Still too late to send a letter?

  1. If the initial letter did not list all information regarding the debt (who is the creditor, balance due, terms etc) then you can still send request for verification (send it certified/receipt confirmed) and keep all letters for your records. Here is a link for more info on debt collection. It is a yahoo group where links are provided to access the FDCA. Hope this helps
