If your last name is incorrect on an item on your credit report, can you have that item removed?

For example if you have an item from an agency and your name is Bob Smith and on your credit report it says Bob Smith Jones. Could you dispute that information and get it removed?

  1. no
  2. Yes, you can dispute and request for it to be removed.
  3. You can only have it removed if the credit information is incorrect (i.e. it's not your account). Contact the reporting agency to have the name corrected.
  4. You can dispute it only if it is disputable? Are you just trying to pull the wool over their eyes or is this for real??
  5. If its your name, only they screwed up on it, then you can have the name changed. But you cannot have it removed from your credit report if its a typo error and truely part of your credit. They'll check that by the address and social of the account holder, and that sort of thing. If that person on your credit report is not you, then yes, you can have it removed, and should!
  6. No. You can just have an item placed in there stating the correct name. It will almost certainly always list this as an "Alias". For example, when I applied for a Dicks Sporting goods card, I had down my social security number, and my name as Bob L Smith. My card came under the name BobL Smith. SO, in my credit report, it has this listed as a name that I have credit under. I asked the credit buereaus about this myself, and this is what they told me.
  7. to make that work, you will have to first call the credit bureau and correct all incorrect name spellings. after that is done, you can dispute the trade line and it might be removed because they might no be able to prove it's yours.
