How can I increase my credit score?
I consolidated default student loans into one payment. My credit report is showing the consolidated loan plus the original loans. Now it appears that I have double the amount of debt. I can't get a loan because creditors are saying that my debt to income ratio is too high.

- get a prepaid credit card that will help your credit
- You might think this is a stupid question on my part BUT why don't you get in touch with the credit bureaus (all 3 of them) and ask them what you can do since you DON'T owe double??!! If you don't do it, it will not go off your credit report by itself.
- Check with your original lendors and make sure they closed out the accounts (and that your consolidation went through correctly) - that should reflect on your credit report. You can call the credit companies to find out how long it will take for that kind of update to show up. If you can get a credit card that'll help - just put a little on it every month and make sure you pay off the balance.
- You need to contact the credit department at the student loan place and have them erase the debt. I assume you paid them in full and are now paying a separate company for the loans. they should be able to do this quickly.
- Report it to the credit bureau that has the account
