will it affect your credit report if you dispute&refuse a bill and biller only have your address and not SSN?

You are changed a bill, you don't think that the bill is reasonable and refuse to pay. You didn't sign anything. The biller has your address, but not your social security number. The biller may send it to collection agency (the amount is only $50, so it's unlikely that it will be sent to collection agency). Can the collection agency report the case to credit report companies (without your SSN) so that it may damage your credit history?

  1. I have had this happen to me. Do you know that you can review each of your credit reports from the three major credit bureaus for FREE annually? Go to www.annualcreditreport.com for more details. Best of luck!
  2. As long as you are disputing a charge they can not report it, but if they find that you did make the charge than if you refuse to pay they can and have ever legal right to do it...N
  3. They will find you either way if they have your name & address and it's a lagitamate charge. (Even if you don't agree with it or feel you have been over charged, you're liable and they are always right if you used their products.) The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies — Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion — to provide you with a free copy of your credit report, at your request, once every 12 months. http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/edcams/credit/ycr_free_reports.htm
  4. if you prove your dispute point, they can not report it.. but without them accepting your dispute, if you dont pay, then they may report to you to the credit offices. However, the balances under $100 is usually under credit report radar
  5. Pay the bill and bad-mouth the business forever. Tell them that you are going to do that. Fifty bucks is not worth the damage that your credit rating will receive.
