  1. Paid charge-offs remain for 7 years from the date of last activity, unless you can get the company that is reporting to the credit bureaus to remove it as part ot a settlement agreement. Credit repair agencies cannot do anything to help. They will only cost you money, and do exactly what you can do for free, which is dispute the accuracy of the accounts with the credit bureaus. They charge ridiculous fees to send dispute letters, and often do more damage than good, as they often dispute positive as well as negative items. There no such thing as a good credit repair company - they are all in business to rip you off.
  2. No, there is no way to have them taken off until they are seven years old and they drop off of your credit. Do you know what your middle credit score is? This is the score most lenders use. Try calling some brokers that do non-conforming mortgage loans(loans for less then perfect credit or bad credit). You should be able to find them in your Yellow Pages under mortgages, loans or mortgage loans. Unless your credit is absolutely horrible, you can probably get a mortgage. Call a few different brokers, because each broker has different lenders that they use. If one broker can't help you, try another. There are tons of lenders out there who do bad credit mortgages. These days almost anyone can get a mortgage. You might start out with a higher rate, but if you make your payments on time, your credit scores will go up and you can refinance after about six months for a lower interest rate.
  3. contact the credit bureau ,talk to them maybe they can help, or go through a mortgage company that helps with bad credit.
  4. You cannot get them "removed" but you can demand that the status be updated to show paid in full. Check the status of each account on your credit bureau report. If the status still shows just "charge off" then you need to file a dispute through all 3 credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) and request that the accounts show "charged off - paid in full" or "paid charge off". A paid charge off looks much better to a lender than an unpaid charge off! You are entitled to 1 free credit report each 12 months. Take advantage of this and monitor your credit yourself. Stay away from companies that advertise "Credit Repair"...they can only take your money and do for you what you can do foyourself for free! Raising your credit score will take some time. The best explanation of how to improve your credit score that I have found is on www.clarkhoward.com. Clark is a very knowledgeable consumer advocate and explains things in plain English. Hope this helps!
  5. I know of a credit repair company with proven results. Additionally, they are a non-profit with a money back guarantee. They give you an online login and passcode so you can follow along as your score improves.
