ive been told by tax credits i owe them nearly £16.000 from the last 3 years yet i was always up to date with

them and they even sent me £1000 last year because they so called under payed me the year before and i had a full tax examination on my income 4 months ago when i questioned the letter all they said was they ll send a dispute form out i only earn £240 a week and i have 3 kids surely it must be wrong

1. i find tax credits very difficult to deal with. I don't think they read the things you send them. They have done a similar thing with me this year, but like you, i dont see how i can have been overpaid on the money i have. Just phone back and ask for a supervisor, sometimes it really all depends on who you speak to. hope you get it sorted good luck
2. Go and see citizens advice bureau...look for your nearest one and go in in oerson as they're really hard to get on the phone...theyll help you all the way....and they know all about tax and things.
3. Have you got any documentation from your past returns? I recon it is wrong and surely they would be able to sort this out for you. Does your employer pay your tax for you? If so they will have records of how much you payed. If you have been up to date with your tax payments I think it is highly unlikely you would even pay that much tax in three years. Try not to stress out to much just make them sort it out
