Account Dispute on Credit Report?

I recently disputed an account on my credit report. I was wondering if my credit score will decrease because of the dispute. There also has not been any activity on the account in over 6 months. This is an account I paid off but it was still showing that I had a balance. Advice would be appreciated.

  1. Did you contact the credit bureau directly? If you did, they should have mailed you something indicating the account has been updated. I've worked with credit repair companies and this is how our process worked: the consumer contacts the credit bureau to dispute how an account is reporting on credit. If the creditor cannot prove to the bureau that the account still has a balance they, by law, must update the bureau immediately. It does not lower your score. As a matter of fact, it will improve your score if it is showed as paid instead of showing owing a balance.
  2. After the balance has been removed it should increase your scores
  3. Why would you think it would lower your score? If you sucefully remove a negative item you score should in cress. We really don't know enough about the account to give the right answer. If the account was for example 7 years old and you paid on time perfect for 6 years then the account where to go in to collections in some cases removing the account could lower your score.
