credit report?

I just got my credit report. My credit score was like 508 and I'm 22. I've known I had bad credit for a while, but I didn't realize it was that bad. How can I get back on track? How will this effect me getting an apartment and jobs? I think part of the problem is that I have two negatives things on my report. The thing is I'm relatively new to credit, and as soon as I got credit things took a turn for the worst. There are people with good credit that I'm getting an apartment with, so I'm not greatly concerned. I just want to get it fixed.

  1. Take a look at ther report and you will see WHY it's so bad. The way to fix it is PAY off anything you still owe that is past due and then start paying your bills on time..
  2. 508 ! OUCH! THAT IS BAD . TRY TO DISPUTE to creditors they have to respond within a period of time . if they don;t respond than ask the credit agencies to correct on your credit report. if you still owe creditors sometime they will settle for less amount. and ask for a settlement letter before you pay them. good luck
  3. I suggest for you to pay your balances on-time. Every company reports monthly to all credit bureaus. Once you start paying all your bills on-time your credit scores also will rise. I also suggest for you not to apply for credit cards or any loans for a while; because this only brings down your credit scores. When apartments or employers look into your credit history, if I am not mistaken your credit score doesn't lower. I thought it did, but a representative from one of the credit bureaus that I have called she told me that my scores don't get lower for these types of reports. When it comes to getting an apartment or a job; it depends. Some employers just want to see the consistency that you have with making your payments, I will assume that an apartment manager will look at the same thing. The payment trade-line is very important. Just pay your bills before they become due. Before you know it you will have a great credit history and score. Good luck............
  4. Don't make the mistake of blindly cutting checks to every account that you've defaulted on.....Paying off old defaulted charge-offs won't magically fix your credit. If you are going to pay off old defaulted debt...Attempt to get a "Pay for Delete" WRITTEN agreement from the creditor that they'll delete the negative notation upon receipt of the agreed-to amount. Get the terms IN WRITING prior to giving anyone one penny....Never trust a verbal agreement from a collection agency......When you pay, pay ONLY by money order....Never give them your bank transit and checking account # for an auto debit...they'll raid your checking account if you do. 508 is rather bad...I don't think that any decent apt. complex will rent to you....Try to get the score up to at least 650 before attempting to rent.
