Repair Credit?

I asked this question the other night and really didnt get what I was looking for. Im wondering about companies that do credit repair. Does any one have first hand knowledge that these programs work or not?

  1. Hint: they do not work. Do not waste your time or your money.
  2. Never looked them up. You should talk to your bank first. Chances are they have a program there and since you bank there anyway, it would be convenient. If not, they can surely line you up with some suggestions. Money is their business. The more YOU have, the more THEY will have in your account.
  3. Avoid credit repair agencies that charge a fee to improve your FICO score by removing negative, but accurate, information from your credit reports. No one can force credit reporting agencies or lenders to remove accurate information from a credit report. Credit repair companies often take your money without delivering what they promise, or provide only temporary improvements of your score, sometimes by removing accurate information that will reappear later. If you decide to respond to a credit repair offer, look for these tell-tale signs of a scam: companies that want you to pay for credit repair services before they provide any services. companies that do not tell you your legal rights and what you can do for yourself for free. companies that recommend that you not contact a credit reporting company directly. companies that suggest that you try to invent a β€œnew” credit identity β€” and then, a new credit report β€” by applying for an Employer Identification Number to use instead of your Social Security number. companies that advise you to dispute all information in your credit report or take any action that seems illegal, like creating a new credit identity. If you follow illegal advice and commit fraud, you may be subject to prosecution. Hope this has been of help to you.
  4. SCAMS......time and current pymt records are what raise your scores......most lenders view the most recent 24 months as the most important part of your history.....so 25 months from now you will accomplish what those repair companies claim.
  5. They do not work! They are scams! The only way to repair your credit is to be responsible with your bills. Don't have a ton of credit cards, don't have a ton of store cards, don't pay your bills late, etc. If you do that your credit score will slowly increase to a healthy number.
  6. They do work by not only disputing by mail, online, but also by utilizing their contacts at the bureaus. Check out the free evaluation form at www.totaldebtsolutionsllc.com --They partner with a true non profit that provides a high quality service for just $125. My mom used them and her score jumped 60 points. Good luck.
  7. I have two friends that have a credit repair company. One is a realtor who only deals with people who are buying houses in the next few months. That gives him time to have things taken off and by the time they come back on they will have already closed on their house. The things that these companies do are things you can do yourself. They write letters to have things removed. You cannot have things removed if they're legit. Even if they're removed temporarily they can come back on your report and when they do your 7 years start ALL over again. Your 7 years starts from the time you contact the company. You can read up on it and do it yourself. Start with things that are not true, these things can be removed. I did mone myself and I took one of my scores up 132 points BUT that was because there was alot of wrong things on it. Dealing with thses companies is giving money away Also, a good resource is... http://debt.knowledged.info/credit_card.html Hope that helps.
