help with credit score

free credit scores

Is there such a law that a mortgage lender cannot provide me with my credit report with score.?

I allow a mortgage company to run my credit but they do not want to give me a copy.

  1. They do not have to give you a copy of your credit report. They do have to send a letter explained that they pulled your credit report, which CRA it was pulled from and how you can request a free copy of your credit report. Not your credit score. I know we automatically mail out a customer's credit score when they do a mortgage application with us. I want to say it's now required for mortgage lenders to disclose the credit score but I'm not sure. We may just do it as customer service. I can tell you there is no law stating a mortgage lender cannot provide you with a copy of your credit report and score that I know of. The copy of the credit report would probably not be very readable to you though because it's typically formatted to be read by the underwriter(Note: I haven't underwritten in about 4 years, so this may have changed) Another option, the free annual credit report that the government requires. It's at www.annualcreditreport.com
  2. you should get a copy with the closing papers and most will tell you your score right over the phone. I would be weary of the lender if they won't give you YOUR info
  3. The lender is not obligated to give you a copy. You can request one.. but I don't think they usually give you one, even with closing papers. If a lender denied you credit due to a credit scoring, they do have to send you a letter stating who the credit reporting agency was but they won't give you your report. They will just advise you to call that reporting agency with any questions. Best Wishes!
  4. If they take your credit, they have to provide you with a copy of the report. File a complaint with your State Office of Financial Regulation and file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission https://rn.ftc.gov/pls/dod/wsolcq$.startup?Z_ORG_CODE=PU01 While you are at it, file a complaint with the local Better Business Bureau If push comes to shove, your mortgage company will claim they mailed it and it must have been lost in the mail. 5. They do not have to. They are paying the credit bureaus for the report, not you. When you apply for a loan, you "allow" them to do this.
  6. They don't have to provide you with a copy because THEY paid for that copy, not you. Pay for your own copy if you've already used your free one.
