What is the best way for me to dispute mistakes on my credit card bill?

Here's my problem; Dec. 2nd I got a call that I was over my credit card limit & that I needed to make a larger payment than my Dec. statement listed to get back in good standing. I agreed, over the phone (perhaps that was my mistake) to make 2 payments within 1 week's time. Those payments are showing up on my Jan bill, but there is also a 3rd, larger payment listed which I did not authorize. Their failure to get that money out of my checking account has resulted in a return check fee, as well as additional "check by phone" fees. I've called twice about this error & have seen no results yet. I have accessed my account online & there is a link where I can dispute fees & credits. Would I be better off handling this online, rather than talking to customer service reps who tell me they'll look into it, but obviously haven't yet? Would I be out of line to report them to the Better Business Bureau if they don't clear this up soon? My card is through HSBC, if that matters.

  1. That company is holding a gun to your head go to the state detpartment..
  2. Short of legal recourse, the best way to get results is persistence, and maybe the credible THREAT of legal recourse. No, you wouldn't be out of line to report the issue to the BBB, but that's not likely to have any effect on actually getting results. It may, however, affect whether others do business with them in the future.
