If I have a slightly below-average credit score, will this hurt me in a job search?
Currently my score is good at 730 but I think my score may end up being around 630 b/c of a small tax lien, which will be paid soon. Thanks!

- Generally the only way your finaces will hurt you in a background check are bankrupcies and huge ammonts of debt that make it seem likley that you will steal. Generally, employers don't run credit checks because it is expensive, but a less than perfect score won't hurt you.
- It depends. If you are trying to get a job with a company that does background checks it might hurt you. Most companies do not do background checks. Do everything you can to improve your credit score. Good luck.
- Your credit score has nothing to do with you getting a job. A loan yes but not a job.
- unless the job specially deals with a large cash flow, then I would say it wouldn't hurt your job search
- few employers are concerned with your credit score. It usually only becomes a factor when the job is financial in nature. bank teller, loan officer etc. In these positions the employer may use the score to judge how you handle your own money and if you are capable of handling theirs.
- Hi there, The only type of job that generally is impacted by your credit score is a job in the financial or banking industry or if you are in accounting. The score that you describe would not hurt you and you get a chance to defend yourself if a company takes adverse action on you based on something found in your background check. When you complete the background check information for a future employer, always ask them what they check and what the criteria is for employment. Good luck, Lisa
