- freecreditreport.com
- Do not go to freecreditreport.com. That site will scam you into paying them a monthly or yearly fee. They had a class action lawsuit a few years ago because of this. They also made it very hard to cancel the "subscription". Read the fine print. Instead, http://www.annualcreditreport.com is the only website you should go to. Any other website will scam you and/or try to get you to join one of their stupid plans that you have to renew monthly or yearly. This site was set up by the big three credit reporting agencies in the United States (Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian), to furnish free annual credit reports, as required by federal law. It is important to note that there is a difference between a credit score and a credit report. A credit report will show your payment history, balances, loans, defaults, etc. A credit score will show your actual score. Each of the three big credit agencies will have their own scoring methods, so each agency will report a different score. This is normal. Your credit report is free, every year. In order to receive your actual credit score, you will need to pay a one-time fee of $5 to $7 to each credit agency.
- wanosd is exactly right. He gave you the correct website for your free credit report. Right now, there isn't a way (that I am aware of) that you can get your credit SCORE for free. Do NOT go to that "free" credit report website that you see all the commercials for. Think about it - if they are giving things away, how do they pay for all those commercials??
- You are entitled to 1 free annual credit report with each of the 3 major credit bureaus. The scores always cost about $15-30. Just contact equifax, experian and transunion. If you do it online (even though it's free) they'll ask for a credit card #....marketing scam...just download the request form and mail it in....2-3 weeks you'll have a report(s)
- Credit bureaus make money selling the score. They're not going to give it away until the government makes them, like with reports.
- You can see your credit score for free at creditkarma.com. I did it myself after seeing an article about it in bottomline magazine. Works good and FREE!
