Credit dispute, item came off Experian but not Transunion?

I am confused about how it works. I disputed a "joint" account on Experian, and it was removed. However, the dispute over the same account on Transunion remains. How can one company delete it and the other not? How do the creditors determine that this is my account? I did not sign for it nor agree to it. I have already gone through the dispute process with both companies. Experion took it off, but Transunion say it stays on my report after the dispute.

  1. 2 different companies and usually trans takes longer to go off.
  2. You will need to dispute the account with all three credit reporting agencies. They don't really talk to each other. They are competitors. The information was provided by the original creditor to the credit reporting agencies. You need to make sure that that the original creditor is not still reporting it to the credit reporting agencies. Otherwise, it will just show back up the next time the creditor reports. If the creditor is still reporting it, you will also need to dispute it with the original creditor. Good Luck
  3. When you file a dispute, the credit bureau ask the creditor to verify the item. Verification consist of the creditor saying "yes". If the creditor fails to respond, the item is removed. For some reason Transunion seems to be more difficult to get errors corrected. At this point, send a certified, return receipt letter to the creditor asking for validation of the debt including any contract or other document that proves this is your debt. Give them 30 days. If they respond, you will have documented proof that the debt isn't yours and can use this to file another dispute with Transunion. If the creditor fails to respond, dispute it with Transunion that the creditor failed to validate the debt. Either way, they should remove it.
  4. I had one delinquent item removed by Equifax but Tans Union just refuses to remove it.
