- If it's an error and not correct. If it's not your account. If it's been on there for 7 years or more. If it's been paid off. The credit company has to prove it is correct, so if they can't, it's taken off. Just explain what's wrong with it. I had a huge issue with American Express reporting something that was impossible and after about 8 hours on the phone one day they finally admitted it was their fault, their mistake and it was removed. Sometimes you have to call the credit card company.
- Excuses ? Excuses ? There is no such thing as excuses, are you talking about reasons for disputing the negative entrys on your report? Only inaccurate information can be disputed off of your credit bureau report. If you need examples of credit dispute letter, you can always go online and type in Credit dispute letter, repair credit, etc., this may help you to word your dispute accurately. Keep in mind if you are not correct, and if the information is accurate, this information will stay on your credit report for 7 years from the date of last activity. You can also try to hire a credit repair agency.
- Excuses won't work. You've got to have documentation to back up your dispute.
- Legitimate derogatory items stay on your credit report for 7-1/2 years from the date of default. You can attempt the old "dispute everything as not mine and hope the creditor fails to verify" method to clean up your bad debt. You might even get some of it removed. However, don't be surprised if it doesn't show back up in a couple months when the creditor next updates. The credit bureau is also likely to tag you and in the future you will find it very difficult to get errors removed.
