- If your bad credit history is accurate, there is no legal way to "clear and repair" it. Anyone claiming otherwise is lying. If your bad credit history is not accurate, you can fix it yourself. Have you gotten copies of your credit reports? You are entitled to a free copy from each of the big three credit reporting agencies (Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax) once a year. Go to www.annualcreditreport.com for your free reports. Review your reports and look for errors. If you find any, notify the credit reporting agency reporting the inaccurate information. Instructions will be included on each credit report for how you do that. Once you dispute a piece of information, the credit reporting agency has a certain period of time (I believe 30 days) to verify the information with the creditor or remove it from your report. Some of the credit repair scams simply report every negative piece of information as inaccurate, and hope for the best. The credit reporting agencies do not fall for these tactics. If your credit reports are accurate, then the only thing you can legally do to improve them is pay your bills on time. If you do so, your credit reports (and scores) will improve over time. If you have any credit cards where you are over your credit limit, pay them down to below the limit ASAP. Then you generally want to pay the highest interest rate debts first. Try to keep credit card balances below 30% of the credit limit, because high-utilization of your available credit lowers your credit scores. Also, do not keep applying for credit, because every time you do, the creditor runs your credit report and these inquiries also lower your credit score.
- I dont know anything about credit in the UK, but here in the USA there are plenty of scams. I've found some good information here too... http://www.safelinked.info/jump.php?link=debt Best of luck.
