  1. Everything I've read about credit consolidation companies and the like says that they are a scam. Look for a ***non-profit credit counseling**** company. I used American Financial Solutions and was very pleased. They negotiate a lower interest rate for you on your cards, when possible to do so. They make it so you make just one lump payment to them, and then they make sure all your bills are paid on time. Also, since they are non-profit, the monthly "fee" is technically a donation, and because of this I was able to request that they make that "donation" less ... I paid just $7 or $8 a month ... I thought that was fair, seeing as how I was trying to get out of debt. Whatever you do, go with a non profit. I've heard the other companies actually ruin your credit, because you're basically taking out yet another loan to pay off all the other loans. And, with any non-profit, you should be able to negotiate the "fees" because of them technically being "donations" that have to be voluntary. Good luck! p.s. So sorry, I didn't see that you were specifically talking about medical bills. I don't know about the companies you're talking about, but hopefully my advice will still help! Just be cautious, there are so many scams out there.
  2. I am using a credit repair site for my husband. I did a lot of research before I did this. I went to the BBB and googled, etc. It was $19 One-Time Setup Fee $79 Monthly Payment for three months. Everything that they do, I could have done, but I do not have the time to do it for my husband. Here is what they do... After I joined they sent me this email Within the next 3 to 5 business days we will receive a copy of your three credit reports. Our specialists will begin working with the credit reporting agencies toward removing the negative items from them. Please understand that credit repair is a 6 month process. This is mainly because we can only move at the credit reporting agencies pace. Typically within approximately 6 to 8 weeks you will receive a new, updated copy of your credit reports from the credit bureaus (TransUnion, Equifax & Experian). Please do not pull another copy of your credit report until the service is complete. Doing this may hinder your results. Also, please inform us ASAP of any address changes anytime throughout your 6 month program. Sometimes clients move during their 6 month service and do not receive updated credit reports because they do not inform us of this change early on. You can easily notify us of any change. IN RECAP: Step 1: Keep in mind that we will email you every other week or so to give you an update on the status of your service. Step 2: As you receive your updated credit reports from the three credit agencies (TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian) please fax or mail them to us as well. -This is important, please make note of it. The site I used was repairyourbadcredit.com Good luck!
  3. Yes, i have. I was with care one, for credit card bills and it was non profit. You should check out another site, they usually charge a small fee like $5 dollars or a little more. I joined them for my credit card debts in Feb of 2007, and they pay the card companies and may knock off the intrest rate or whatever. But it takes forever! I just called each company and made a settlement. And now i am debt free. The credit repair companies only pay like $11 or so dollars. To me it is not worth it. If you can whoever is in charge of the medical bills and make a settlement, it will most likely be better. They can cut the bill in half or maybe small enough that you can afford to pay. Bc with these credit repair sites, you will be paying for years!
  4. They can't do anything you can do. You can find more info here: http://www.safelinked.info/jump.php?link=debt Take care.
