Does anyone really know how to repair your credit?

I hired someone to do this for me and it hasn't been working too well. I'm tired of forking out a LOT of money and not getting good results. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

  1. pay your bills....
  2. Well, for one you need to pay off any debts that you have. Secondly, pay off any new bills on time or before. Also, don't spend a ridiculous amount on a credit card all at once. And the fewer things you have to pay back, like mortgages, the better. I know these aren't easy to do, but these are essential to rebuilding your credit. It will take time, you just have to be smart with what you spend. If you don't absolutely have to pay with your credit card, don't.
  3. You need to pay down any credit cards that you have, I think you are supposed to go to something like 15% of the limit or something like that. Pay other things on time for a few months and then try to negotiate a lower APR so that you can pay them off sooner. You might want to keep in mind that there is such a thing as too much credit. If you have a lot of credit cards all with really high limits, it looks like you need a lot of credit and that is a bad thing so, for some stuff you might want to reduce the limit. Hope that helps you.

  5. there really is no such a thing as credit repair. Most are scams. Legitimate debt cannot be erased from your credit. Only time will improve your credit. Bad debts disappear after 7, bankruptcy in 10. If you have collections and have cash try negotiating with the original creditor or the collection agency. You need to call them and see if they will settle for less than what is owed. Start at 10 cents on the dollar and work your way up to no more than 50cents. Then you want them to "delete" (not just show as paid which will lower your score) of your credit report. Get this in writing and do not make any payments until that point. A good method is to send them a check and write "By depositing check you agree to delete "xyz" from my credit report. This is a binding contract". A check is a legal contract and if they deposit and refuse to delete later you can sue them in court.
  6. You don't have to pay anyone to repair your credit you can do it your self. Get a copy of your credit report and go over it anything you don't recognize or think is not accurate dispute it! even if you are not sure,do this for all three agencies. you are entitled to a free report every year from these agencies. I did it last year my self and was amazed at how many things i was able to remove from my report. stop giving your hard earned money away to these people. good luck to you!
  7. Beware of companies that promise to help you re-establish your credit for a fee. Their ability to change the information that appears in your credit file is no different than anyone else! Only your creditors are able to alter this information. Therefore you do not need to pay a third party to obtain, discuss, review or make changes to your credit report. You have the right to access your information and make changes to your file if there is an inaccuracy or if you want to include a comment. Follow these simple guidelines to help restore and improve your credit score. First, make sure all the information on your credit report is accurate. Second, try to pay off all or any accounts that are currently in collections or make payment arrangements with the creditor to pay off the balance monthly. Third, any credit card that is over 50% of the available credit line should be paid down to under half of your total credit line. Your credit score is lowered when your available balance is over 50% of your total credit line. Finally, if you have bad or no credit and have no credit cards try to obtain two credit cards and make sure all of your monthly payments are made on time. This will help increase your credit score. If you cannot be approved for a unsecured credit card, obtain a secured credit card. Repairing your credit and improving your credit score is a slow process that takes time.
  8. Credit repair services are RIP OFFS. Pay your bills and you will have good credit. As simple as that. DO NOT HIRE ANYONE! They will take your money and you will get NOTHING in return! That money would have been much better spend on your BILLS!
