help with credit score

I closed a credit card, will paying it off raise my credit score?

I know NOW that closing a credit card isn't good for your score - so please don't lecture me on that - but that is after I closed it unfortunately. I am close to paying it off, and I was wondering when I pay it off - will it help raise my score? Or am i just paying it off and seeing no results. Thanks!

  1. yep Stop obsessing over your score. If you live within your income and pay cash, you won't need to worry about a credit score.
  2. Yes, it should help your score!
  3. it will help raise your credit score and don't worry you will be ok it is better to pay if off of up and be not be in default so relax
  4. If you pay your card off no this will not help your score that much, because in order to get a good score and accumulate credit you have to show them that you can make payments. Which means they look for if you pay them on time and with the correct amount of money. But just paying it off will not help. But it also depends on how close you are to paying it off, and if you are really close then that is fine to just pay it off because youv'e already accumulated the credit that you needed to get a good score. Hope this helps!
  5. It will help raise your score because you are debt free which does still count for something! Pardon my rant, but why is that if you open a credit card account it is bad for your score and if you close an account it is bad for your score? These jerks can't have it both ways.

  7. Paying it off won't help your credit score to much but not paying it off will definitely hurt your score. Pay it off and relish the feeling of not owing anything.
