How can my husband and I improve our Credit score?

We got married over a year ago, in California. Our Landlord wanted to sell the house we were living in, so we had to move to Utah. Were he has family. ( No were not Morman) Any way, we have been here 5 mths now. And we have looked and looked for a place to live. But were convinced it's out Credit. My husband, has a Bankruptcy on his report from 2000. And it's still on his record. Is there any way to remove negitive marks on you credit report?

  1. You cannot remove bankruptcy from your credit report but it will be taken off after 7-10 years depending on which type it was. The only way you can improve your score is to keep ujsing cards and pay them off on time every month.
  2. Not if the information is correct. Your husband should have started rebuilding his credit as soon as his bankruptcy discharged and you would not be having this problem now.
  3. suggest u visit daveramsey.com to llearn what bankers pray u never ever learn or worse - apply in ur life. how to own ur money not be owned by it. will get u hints around ur challenges.
  4. The landlord will look at two things. Your credit history and your income. Why are you convinced it is your credit? Is this what the landlords have been telling you. If so they can not just say your credit is not good enough, they must tell you the specific reasons why. The reasons they give are what you will need to work on. If they are telling you it is your income, then you either need to look at a less expensive place, or a way to come up with more money. As for removing negative items, if they are valid you can not have them removed legally. The bankruptcy(Chapter 7?), will remain on your record for 10 years. Depending on when the accounts that were included in bankruptcy went delinquent, they should have either already fallen off, or will fall off in the next few months. Negative items can only remain on your report for 7 years from the date of the negative item. So for the charge-offs this is 7 years from the date of last delinquency.
  5. A credit bureau will not remove accurate negative information from your credit report before the legal time period has expired. Therefore, do not believe anyone who claims they can get negative information removed from your credit report faster than is legally required. Just follow these simple guidelines to help restore and improve your credit score. First, make sure all the information on your credit report is accurate. Second, try to pay off all or any accounts that are currently in collections or make payment arrangements with the creditor to pay off the balance monthly. Third, any credit card that is over 50% of the available credit line should be paid down to under half of your total credit line. Your credit score is lowered when your available balance is over 50% of your total credit line. Finally, if you have bad or no credit and have no credit cards try to obtain two credit cards and make sure all of your monthly payments are made on time. This will help increase your credit score. If you cannot be approved for a unsecured credit card, obtain a secured credit card. Repairing your credit and improving your credit score is a slow process that takes time.
