Does a one-time free annual credit report request affect my credit score?
Public Comments
- no
- not if you requested it. you can request a report anytime and it will not affect your credit. the only time it affects your credit is if a credit company requests it. this brings down your credit score by a few points. the more creditors check your credit, the lower the score gets. that is what they look at when they look into your report. the higher the score the lower the risk.
- When you check your own credit, it is shown as a soft inquiry. It does not affect your score. A hard inquiry, on the other hand, will change your score.
- No, your own inquiries do not effect your score. Only inquiries from creditors will.
