Is there an official government website where I can get my credit score for free?
I'm not talking about those stupid pop-up things that say "check your credit score for free" then try to scam you six ways to Sunday.

- http://freecreditscore.com/ This is the one I used and yes... it is free...
- https://www.annualcreditreport.com Also : Am I entitled to a free credit report under state law? In addition to consumers who are eligible for a free credit file disclosure through the Annual Credit Report Request Service; consumers in some states are eligible for a free credit file disclosure under state law. The following states have laws that make free credit reports available to consumers: Colorado, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Vermont.
- The federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires that U.S. consumers be entitled to a free credit report each year. The government’s goal is to make sure that consumers stay informed, fight identity theft, and get fair treatment. This is the government mandated website where you can get 1 free credit report from the 3 agencies for free in one year: https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp
- jakasaki needs to be taken out to the woodshed! That site is just another of the many scam sites that charge you for your reports. Yes, if you signed up you can then get a report, then cancel your membership...but it's a hassle. Oh, and in nearly all cases this is NOT your FICO score, which is used by most creditors to evaluate you. So you just wasted your money. There are no free credit score sites! They are required to give you a free Credit Report only (NOT the score).
- You can get your official score from each of the 3 reporting companies. These companies have set up a 1-800 number where you can ask to recieve one over the phone. Do not trust any free credit report sites except those officially authorized by the Federal Trade Commission which include the 3 main companies that compile your credit score (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion). My source includes official government information regarding free credit reports and how to get one. It doesn't make sense to trust other credit reporting sites when you can get information officially from those that actually compile your credit score. "The law allows you to order one free copy of your report from each of the nationwide consumer reporting companies every 12 months."
