- I haven't done it, but I will advise you to be very careful doing it. Every time you check your credit score, it shows up on your credit rating as you asked for a loan. So if you check three times in a year, suddenly it looks like three more times you were asking for credit, a loan, mortgage, whatever. To be honest with you, the best thing to do is just go and get whatever it is you need. If you are planning to buy a house or a cell phone, just go and do it. It's embarrassing if they say no, but checking your credit score frequently is not a good idea. Go talk to your banker. He or she will give you a much better idea. And try to stay out of debt as much as possible!!!
- annualcreditreport.com This is the site set up by the three reporting agencies for your free annual credit report. Any other website that says check your credit score for free is going to try to sell you something.
- You can check your report for free by annualcreditreport.com (government site), but the only way you can get your score for free is to enroll in a free trial (usually 30-day) and CANCEL before the trial is up. There are some people out there who are trying to ammend the Fair Credit Reporting Act to include free credit scores.
- Pulling your credit yourself does not effect your credit score!!! You can see your credit report online or contact the credit bureaus directly (will usually be a fee). Again, you pulling your own credit report does not effect your score or show up as an inquiry. http://www.annualcreditreport.com This is a free service to pull your credit report, they do charge a fee if you want to see your score. But you can see everything on all 3 credit reports for free. Other services, like freecreditreport.com are sites where you can get a report but you must sign up for their service.
